Ryan Royer of Novonesis joins this interview to discuss how this year's harvest, with conditions ranging from wet fields to drought, shows the value of a quality silage inoculant. He explains how…
Silage inoculants is what we're gonna be talking about, and I'll tell you, this year I think was probably one of the years that was some of the biggest struggles when it came to silage just because of the fact that Mother Nature wasn't the nicest with, with rain, and for some areas it was so dry-
So what are you guys doing at Nova Nessus to give them a silage inoculant that's gonna give them the highest quality silage year-round?
Well, thank you very much, Susan, for having me here and, and letting me talk a little bit about our silage inoculant and, uh, just silage in general, right? So you're right.
Uh, this year presented kind of the full gamut of really wet harvest conditions, uh, maybe some good, uh, crop, crop stands, right, but really hard to get out of the field, all the way to some of the states in the Southwest US and, uh, you know, really drought-stricken and, and just tough on yields overall.
And, and sometimes we see extremes, but every year presents its own set of challenges, right? And so we always wanna stress, uh, you know, we, we wanna harvest at, at a proper moisture.
We wanna make sure we get our kernel processing right when it comes to corn silage.
We really wanna make sure we're getting a good, uh, efficient harvest, get that crop off the field, into the bunker or pile, packed well.
You know, there's a lot of things we don't have control over, but one of the tools in the toolbox that we do have some control over is applying an, uh, a quality silage inoculant to, to help, uh, direct proper fermentation and preservation of that feed stuff and, uh, and, uh, protect it on the feed outside as well.
And all inoculants are not the same, so what kinda makes you guys the cream of the crop?
Uh, from a, a, a particular company's portfolio, there can be variations within what, what each inoculant might do.
Um, and then certainly the, the specific strains of bacteria within those inoculants, uh, generally have unique properties.
From our standpoint with Nova Nessus and our SiloSolve, uh, inoculant line, uh, SiloSolve FC, kinda the, the top-tier product, man, that thing, that, that product works in all types of situations, right? R- wetter crops, drier crops.
Uh, maybe we don't always get a great pack, and so the oxygen becomes kind of a, a problem.
The OxyCap technology in SiloSolve FC really helps to ensure a good fermentation and a, a quality feed at the, at the feed-out stage, which is really what it's all about, right? We, we want the best, cleanest, most nutritious feed coming out of our, our, uh, storage facilities, uh, because cows are gonna, gonna consume it, right?
