Carrie Brodzinski, chief underwriting officer at MSIG USA, said as underwriting becomes more data- and AI-enabled, the role of the underwriter becomes more sophisticated.
So Carrie across specialty insurance, where are you seeing the greatest changes in the underlying risks businesses face? And what do those changes mean for underwriting strategy?
There's dramatic changes in technology, artificial intelligence, supply chain, geopolitical events.
But I actually think that the biggest change is the pace of change itself.
And along with that comes new dimensions of risk for our insureds that cut across traditional product lines.
And so for underwriting, that requires that we have to keep up with that pace as well.
So we need to look beyond what's happened in the past to try to analyze better for our insureds what those changes mean for them.
We have to combine a deeper understanding of each individual insured with where its exposures are heading.
And we're going to use data and technology to help us do that because the historical data that we already have may not be enough to actually predict what's going to happen.
