Can we just remind people why it's the, the petrel bird? 'Cause, uh, i-is it this time of the year that they tend to migrate to certain areas? What, what's their flight patterns at this time of year?

So they're, uh, a, a pelagic bird, so, and they disperse largely from, um, their breeding colonies.

And, and we know that this disease, this particularly virulent strain of, of H5N1, has already been in, uh, the sub-Antarctic.

And these birds disperse far and wide, traveling hundreds of kilometers a day and thousands over, over a number of weeks this time of year.

And the birds that are coming into the Australian oceans, in the Southern Ocean, are largely juvenile.

So, um, they're largely preferring to stay off the shelf because that's where the good feed is.
