Moments: Following a Wolf for 1,000 Miles

[paper rustles] How long were you on the journey ov- over, over the course of the-

So I spread it out a bit.

So Slouce walked...

He left, he began in the south of Slovenia, which is where his pack was.

Um, as drawing a line of best fit, he walked about 1,000 miles, although it might have been kind of more like 3,000 miles, allowing for all his little diversions and detours and everything, through Austria and, and down into Italy.

So the idea was that I was gonna walk more or less the same path that, that, that he walked without sort of falling off a mountain or, or-

Yeah

... you know, fo- following the paths.

And, and I, I had two really quite small kids at home when I set out to do the walk, uh, so I just, I didn't really wanna be away for too long at, at times, so I would do...

I di- I ended up doing it in several chunks.

So they're probably, all together, I was walking for maybe four months or something like that.

But I-

Yeah

... stretched it over the kind of best part of a year.

Uh, and how, how were you actually tracking it? 'Cause y- obviously you're getting the GPS signals on that.

Did you have, did you just have that downloaded onto something there to track, or how were you actually f- f- physically-

No, I used maps mostly.

So, uh, all, so Huber had given me all the data points.

There were 635 data points, um-

Wow

... uh, one, one every 190 minutes.

So I got, just had big stack of maps in my bag, and I spent-

Yeah

... a couple of evenings transferring every single data point onto a map and, uh, followed it that way.
