For Ask A.I., Allison asked ChatGPT about a new survey that revealed we are all getting dumber and A.I. is to blame. Except A.I. tried to defend itself!
After today, I think we might need to be done with Ask AI-
Really?
... because I saw this study that said people are getting dumber.
Mm-hmm.
Like, you're not crazy that human intelligence, our best days are behind us.
[laughs] Uh-uh.
The study shows that attention spans, reasoning skills, and problem-solving skills are all tanking.
It shows that many teens and young adults can't read or write above an elementary school level.
Okay.
Um, and they're blaming resilience on AI.
Uh-huh.
So I was like, let's get AI's thoughts about this.
How can we boost our, you know, productivity, our smarts?
Mm-hmm.
Should we stop using AI? And right away it, like, made this colorful thing of like, yes, no, green, red, and it was like, "Listen, some populations have experienced declines in cognitive test scores." You, you got that.
But in bright red it says, "We cannot attribute these historical declines to AI."
Uh-oh.
And I'm like, oh my gosh, I think AI wants us to get dumber.
AI's making its own propaganda.
It really is.
Um, and so it, like, gave me this whole thing about, like, is AI making us worse at thinking? And it's basically saying no.
It says, "Here are three relevant findings." It's got an MIT study that says, well, people were able to write essays without AI language models.
[laughs]
And it's like, yeah, but now that they have them, are we getting dumber because we're using them too much and not using our brains to write the essays? Uh-
That, it's interesting.
