Malachi 3:6 says, "For I am the Lord, I do not change; therefore, you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob." Everything around me seems to be changing, but God isn't.
And I cannot tell you how much comfort I am finding in that right now, because I don't have to wake up tomorrow wondering which version of God I'm going to get, right? I don't have to wonder whether He's going to be faithful in this season, because He's been faithful in every season.
I don't have to wonder whether His character has changed because my circumstances have changed.
And I don't have to wonder whether He'll still be my refuge when my house gets quieter.
Hebrews 13:8 says, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever." [sighs] Yesterday, today, and forever.
[laughs] And there's something else that God has been reminding me of at exactly the right time.
I have been working through my Identity in Christ scripture writing plan, and the timing of that does not feel accidental to me.
Because maybe one of the things that God is trying to teach me in this season is that I have to be careful about where I place my identity.
I will always be a mom, right? And being a mom is one of the greatest privileges that God has given me.
But "mom" is not the deepest answer to the question of who am I, right? Before I am anything else, I belong to Christ.
It doesn't change when the roles that I have occupied for years start looking different.
And it doesn't change when I'm standing in a quiet house wondering what I'm supposed to do with myself now.
My circumstances change without my identity in Christ changing, right? And so maybe that is what I need to be holding onto in this season.
Instead of desperately trying to keep everything the same, I need to anchor myself more deeply in the one who is the same.
Because I don't know exactly what the next few years are going to look like, and...
