#319: Finding the Good Stuff

She says, "I often hear Elsie mention eBay, Etsy and eBay as her best places to find vintage goods.

With eBay, I'm very intimidated by it and the process, as well as I have a hard time finding things on there.

How do you find good things, and can you walk us through your process? With Etsy, the algorithm makes me mad because I feel like I am seeing the exact same things over and over again when I search.

I truly hate their algorithm.

I wonder how you beat the bots [laughs] and find what, the good finds on Etsy.

What to search, how to dig beneath the 10 things it wants to show you, et cetera." Okay.

I have tips for both of these things.

And yeah, I, I can go there.

I can go there that the E- the Etsy is a little harder to navigate than it used to be for sure.

Yes.

I find great things on both.

I'll start on eBay.

eBay is still, like, has early internet vibes.

Like, there's hardly any websites you can go to that haven't changed.

You know what I mean?

That's true.

Like, when you think about, like, how much Amazon has changed since we've been adults, eBay is almost [laughs] exactly the same as it was when we were college age, which is crazy.

So I go on there I would say not every day, but, like, kind of all, like, it, it is a part of my routine.

And I'll tell you a couple of my favorite tips.

So, um, when I'm shopping for art, my favorite tip is to just put in, so I'll put in the type of painting.

Like last night I put in Cubist original vintage painting.

And yeah, I did it with Cubist, and I think I did Fauvism, and then I think I did floral and if, uh...

And then usually I'll put oils, oil also if it's for florals or portraits.

So anyway, if you keep the word vintage and antique in there, then it weeds out all of the new stuff or a lot of the new stuff, which that is really important because I find the new stuff on eBay to be kinda like the whole problem [laughs] of, like, why it's hard to navigate.
