In this chapter, I've flown to Burbank, California to attend my brother Matt's funeral.

Arriving in Burbank, I settled into my rental car to find a phone maps not working.

Well, thank goodness for their signs that were on the road, because I was trying to reboot my phone and look for the highway while driving in an unfamiliar car in an unfamiliar town made me anxious.

They'd scheduled it for 9 p.m., and I still needed to find my hotel, eat something, and drive to the funeral home.

Still trying to reboot my phone, I knew I'd see an exit for Santa Clarita at some point.

But when the sign, Santa Clarita, the next five exits came into view, I panicked.

I exited into Santa Clarita and drove until I came to a red light with a sign for a shopping mall.

It had been months since I'd shopped anywhere in person, and I relished the idea of just being in a public space.

Searching several aisles filled with cars, I finally found an open spot and parked.

I glanced at the car to my right and there was a young woman sitting in the driver's seat.
