I don't know what got us talking about it, but my husband and I started talking about what kind of parents we would've been.

We were on our way home, and it was a, a father on his bike, and the child, who might have been 10 or 11, was behind them, and they were cycling.

[laughs] He said that, um, you know, "If that were my child," you know, "I would be...

The kid would be in front of me the whole time." And you know, I thought it was unusual.

We both thought it was unusual that the dad was ahead, that he couldn't see the son behind him.

And then we started talking about, "Oh yeah, you know, wouldn't we have been the perfect parents?" But it was also a nice reflection on, you know, why we thought, would have thought we would've been good parents together.

And I just wanted to have enough energy to be a present parent if we were gonna have kids.

And I didn't know that that would actually be the case if we were together, um, if we had kids together at that time.

I had, um, he's passed away, but I had a brother who had a disability, and so had I gotten pregnant over 40, my mom was over 35 when she got pregnant with my brother, and so there would've been a high risk of, yeah, danger to me, danger to the child, all those things.

I'm not sure what kind of a job I would've done as a parent had I not had all of this extra time to really deeply address some of the things that I needed to, and not pass on what I inherited or the habits or any of those things.
