Spectrum Next or this new Commodore 64.

Yes, so by doing nothing... to this machine, just adding that compatibility, no hardware or anything, you basically have turned into the Atari 800 XL Next.

And this has been, oh, it's been 20 years.

They showed off, um, a little video, only about two minutes long of, uh, it lo- I mean, at the moment it's very much work in progress, and I think Andrew is basically doing all of this on his own at the moment while, uh, Philip does his, um, his card game he's working on at the moment.

Um, so basically they said this is them dipping their toe back into Dizzy, 'cause they did, um, they did Wonderful Dizzy a few years ago on the ZX Spectrum NEXT-

Mm-hmm

... you might remember, and had this deal with Codemasters where they c- they were allowed to make Dizzy games providing they didn't make any profit off them.

I mean, the Spectrum scene, I think especially over the last few years, has been an incredible thing to see.

I mean, with the Spectrum Next and with various games that have come out, various things like, uh, Aliens: Neoplasma, like Triangle Circle Square.

Um, forgive me.

There's one game that I'm specifically thinking of.

Mm.

Yeah.

And we're seeing also more stuff, more and more stuff come out with the Spectrum Next in mind, such as, um-

So the coder on this was named Alexander Udatov.

He worked on Aliens, Delta Shadow, Battles Tanks, The Next Generation, Eternal Battle.

Guns and Gears, Mighty Final Fight, Party Time 1K, Survivor Section, Treasure Hunters, and a few others.

So a pretty goodly amount of stuff.

It's not some kind of souped-up gimmick.

It's just straight-up money.

And again, this is one of the things about the Next that I think is a problem.

We both love the ZX Next.

An updated list of what is next.

Right off the bat, latest games, Rogue Craft DX on the ZX Spectrum next.

Well, definitely going to have to pick up the next version of it.

That is for sure.

This next one's from Tim.

Broken Bytes, which is Antonio Savona, makes some great games on the Commodore 64 and other devices.

And the team behind Fix-It Felix Jr. on the Commodore 64 have created a new port of the game over on the Spectrum Next.

We actually talked about this last episode with Tim a little bit.

[laughs] I was sort of oddly stalker-ing him.

And, um, but the odd thing was that he was saying that the e- the Spectrum Next version he said is, uh, much harder to do than he thought it would be.

He said, he said if he'd known how much work was required, he probably wouldn't have done it.

Because-

Yeah

... uh-

I mean, that's my only reservation about it, is it feels like what was gonna be a game on the Spectrum Next and on Steam, there's a bit of kind of feature creep that's gone in there.
