episode I have yes I have done oh well done uh I sort of on well on the train in and out of reception um on my Spotify Zulu Dawn um uh I haven't actually seen it yet

Well, you know, just, just to like put it in terms of like the context as we start describing this movie, to kind of talk about the, the su- surprises that we're gonna come across is that this is, you know, approximately of a time with like Zulu and Zulu Dawn-

Mm-hmm

... and you would imagine that just being on the shelf next to these things.

And Cy Enfield is the gentleman that basically brings both of these movies together.

Well, I mean, obviously, they're both battles that took place during the Civil Zulu Wars in Southern Africa in the... latter half of the 19th century, and Seinfeld wrote and directed the first movie, Zulu, which came out in 1964, and he wrote the second movie, Zulu Dawn, which came out in 1979 for the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Isdenwald.

Isden Luana.

And I'm going to be mispronouncing that a lot.

So if you want to have a drinking game and take a drink every time I mispronounce Isden Luana, you might get drunk really quick.

So you might want to rethink that.

But Zulu Dawn, while written by Cy Enfield, was directed by Douglas Hickox.

So even though Zulu Dawn came second, we're going to discuss it first because the battle preceded the Battle of Rocket's Drift, which is what

Very quickly.

And bearing in mind, hopefully everyone's listened to Zulu Dawn, our takedown of that film.

But that provides the historical context, which is, as I mentioned in the last episode, severely lacking in this case.

Basically, you've got a kind of, it's a chapel with a farm and some cattle and a battalion of Welsh soldiers based there, or is it a company? it's not that many is it

And it has all of that.

The characterisation is all there.

All the things that we were bemoaning from Zulu Dawn, the lack of characterisation is there in this film in spades, because primarily with those two characters.

Also with the Colour Sergeant Bourne character, Nigel Green.
