Zor-El

But in

the DC world, Superman has been in the Justice League with Zor-El.

Now, you don't know who Zor-El is.

You don't

have to know who Zor-El is.

It doesn't matter if you don't know who Zor-El is.

But Zoriel is an angel.

Is he a glam rock singer? No, he's an angel.

It's so fun to know that you're hosting a podcast called Supergirl Radio.

Welcome to Supergirl Radio, your source for all things related to the character of Kara Zor-El.

My name is Rebecca Johnson.

I'm Morgan Glennon.

Now attack yourself.

Yes, I think that would be great.

So Mark Thompson played Zor-El.

Ellen Adair played Allura.

Mm-hmm.

And Jor-El discovering the Phantom Zone and, and General Zod taking over the, the planet, and Brainiac coming in and stealing the city of Kandor, and Zor-El and Argo City, which is a big domed city that also survives the Krypton destruction, uh, and they become the parents of Supergirl.

Uh, all this stuff in, in Superman mythology is...

I pull it all together into this, this novel.

When Krypton blew up, by sheer luck, a great chunk of the planet was hurled away intact with people on it, together with a large bubble of air.

Your father's brother, Zor-El, was one of his survivors.

When the fragment turned into Kryptonite, he had it covered with lead sheet metal from his laboratory.

That's lead foil, which stops all radiations.

We're very aware of how we used Mark Thompson in this.

He was our first pick to play Zor-El.

I think Mark has one of the most...

Yeah, Mark Thompson is one of the most versatile voices in this business, I think.

He's always had with Superman this gravitas, right? That sense of wisdom beyond years.

And I think...

We thought a lot about who Zor-El would be in this.

Because, you know, with Zor-El, Superman's dad... there's kind of this archetypal kind of like, you know, like my son, you know, there is kind of that quality.

Its radiations can poison us in time.

Fortunately, a scientist named Zor-El had something in his laboratory which could stop all radiations.

Hurry, cover all the bare ground around our homes with this lead foil I kept on hand for radiation experiments.

It will cut off the kryptonite radiations and let us survive.

Life settled down for the Krypton refugees, and some years later, Zor-El and his wife had a baby daughter.

Me.

It's time for Kara's bottle.

Ah, there's one.

But today, Let's talk about it.

What is Supergirl about? Now, Supergirl 2026 lets us follow Kara Zor-El on her birthday weekend.

As Kara is traveling the cosmos, going under red sun so she can get drunk, she is accompanied by her best friend, Crypto.

Now, I already felt the vibes right here, you know, girl, dog, traveling the cosmos, partying.

I kind of forgot something, a nice little tidbit.

I'm going to go over this again later, but I did want to kind of like mark out two very interesting things that I noticed on this part of the movie.

is the fact that when Argo City was getting put down or being sealed off, Zor-El talked about how his brother, Jor-El, sent his son off to a distant planet.

And he was talking to him about being a conqueror.

And she finds, with Lesla's help, I believe, the remains of Argo City.

Zor-El, as Cyborg Superman, had attempted to resurrect the city, and so that's where those remains are.

So that was a nice connection point.

Yeah.

And then we get to Supergirl.

During Pride Month, Milly Alcock gets asked about the LGBTQ community's connection with Kara Zor-El and whether Supergirl herself might be queer.

And Alcock, who, watching the clip, certainly doesn't seem to have arrived with a carefully prepared corporate answer, eventually says Supergirl would probably go both ways.

Oh, boy.

The screenplay comes from Ana Nogueira, and the movie is heavily inspired by Tom King and Bilquis Evely's acclaimed eight-issue comic miniseries, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

It arrived in North American theaters on June 26th, 2026.

Milly Alcock stars as Kara Zor-El, Supergirl, following her brief introduction in 2025's Superman.

Joining her are Eve Ridley as Ruthye "Mari" Noel, Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, David Krumholtz as Kara's father Zor-El, Emily Beecham as her mother Alura, and Jason Momoa as Lobo.
