Now The Cranberries' Zombie is one of those songs where the volume goes up, and suddenly the conversation gets a whole lot heavier.

Dolores O'Riordan wrote it after the 1993 IRA bombing in Warrington, England, that killed two children, Jonathan Ball and Tim Parry.

The song calls out decades of violence between Ireland and Britain with the not-so-subtle message that killing kids isn't exactly a winning political strategy.

[laughs] You think? Anyway, the video was filmed in Belfast, featuring real soldiers and local children, with Dolores covered in gold paint at a cross.

Zombie was recorded while the band was touring England, and apparently somebody decided Linger needed a flamethrower.

It became their biggest international hit.

The ones that were just about to make it, the ones that use it for supplemental income, all the way down to the fucking door greeter at the club, all got fucked.

So there was quite a few of these, but Miley Cyrus, for the Save Our Stages Festival, went to the Whiskey A Go-Go in L.A. and performed a cover of the Cranberries' Zombie, which is the first metal Miley I ever heard.

This
