Is it Zeotrope? Is that the right way to say

that?

I call it Zeotrope.

I always say Zeotrope because I used to misspell it all the time.

And that to me is really what it's all about in the box.

And that's disappointing.

Because every other Zoetrope album that I have, Iron Maidens, Power Slave, for example, each side is a different design.

All four are exactly the same.

So just so you see, I'm pulling out this other booklet.

put that on the turntable and you look at it with your cell phone and it's alone in the dark it's like a zoetrope you know the old animation machines

yeah yeah And in fact, to be honest, I thought it was my idea.

I was like, man, we could turn a label into a Zotrop.

Then I looked online and this guy Drew Tetz was already doing it very well.

So then it wasn't my invention, but it works well.

There's your vinyl surprise.

And that has since become kind of a thing.

There have been several Zotrop vinyl releases from different artists.

same things that you did.

Heaven's Gate, Ishtar, One from the Heart, which Coppola mortgaged Zoetrope against and lost the studio because of.

And then the other one that also comes to mind is Sorcerer, the Friedkin film, where it was...

This whole thing, whole hullabaloo about, you know, the shoot and it came out after Star Wars and it made like no money.

So I don't know how to say it.

Zeotrope? Zoetrope? But it's basically a vinyl...

I didn't play the music.

It's a vinyl record with, you know, pressed with little animations on it.

But if the number of pictures and slits differ even slightly, the animation appears to drift either forward or backward relative to the spin.

And unlike later devices like the Zoetrope, which we'll discuss in a minute, the standard phonakistoscopes were typically designed for one viewer at a time.

And like we stated before, the phonakistoscope was invented simultaneously around December 1832 by two independent researchers, Joseph Plateau and Simon Stamfer.

And Joseph Plateau was a physicist from Belgium who drew inspiration from earlier optical experiments, including Peter Mark Roget's writing on wheel spokes.

And when the drum spins, the viewer looks through the slits at the pictures on the opposite wall, and the slits act as a stroboscopic shutter, preventing the images from blurring together into a continuous streak, and this rapid succession of framed images tricks the brain into seeing smooth, fluid motion.

And the faster the cylinder spins, the smoother the animation appears, of course.

And unlike its predecessor, the Phenacoscope, which was limited to individual or small group viewing via a mirror, the Zoetrope actually allows multiple people to view the animation simultaneously.

And the definitive modern version of the Zoetrope, like we said, was invented in 1865 by that William and Son Lincoln, who actually coined the name.

I'd have to do the math or it was about to come out, but it was certainly off of Body Heaton.

I just remember Mickey showing up for a meeting at Zoetrope when we were all auditioning and Mickey showed up wearing roller skates and had not bathed in weeks.
