Zeromus

Um, like it...

So I could not have any mirror neurons activated in any way that made him recognizable as anything other than like a Zeromus, like almost.

Yeah.

It felt like a, a boss that, you know, just kinda came out of nowhere a little bit to me.

Absolutely.

And we talked about it last episode, but the background for the fight with Zeromus in the original Final Fantasy IV was a, a visual showcase, whereas it's very static and ugly in this one.

So tell me of the scenes that are going on in the castle, and how do the two, uh, groups meld back together?

Um, they don't wanna fight Cecil 'cause they all love Cecil, but Cecil, Cecil's ready to, to draw blades about this.

He must have only heard about it in, in quiet whispers and fragments.

Golbez says, "I didn't even know he had a son, much less one your age." And that makes me recall, Crystal, that the dream in which, uh, Golbez is killed by Cecil uses Cecil's sprite from Final Fantasy IV.

He doesn't know how his brother has changed at all, so in his mind he's still the same person who defeated Zeromus.

Wow.

Really? [laughs]

Monica, you may remember that in 3D it was further elaborated compared to the English script of the Super Famicom game that Zeromus is not Zemus transformed.

Zeromus is an embodiment of Zemus's hatred, unliving, himself a curse.

Mm-hmm.

With the crystals shattered, Zeromus, now called Zeromus's Malice-

Oh

... explodes out from the chamber where the crystals used to be-

... and faces down with Fusoya and Golbez.

But as they fly back to Baron, town's on fire and monsters are attacking it, and Cecil and Rosa gotta defend their castle.

I do actually like this sequence a little bit, Crystal, because, um, a lot of games I, I, I know that at some point in the finale they're gonna go, "Oh, this threat," whatever it is, "Is even worse than Zeromus." They're going to say basically that specifically, and it's gonna make my eyes roll out of my head

Mm-hmm.

[laughs]

You can't.

And this one's really slow, but it's doing at least some things and expanding on characters who weren't much expanded on before, so it has the potential to do some interesting things.

But as soon as they go, "Oh, this guy's much more powerful than Zeromus," I'm...

As soon as that happens, Crystal, remember that I said this.
