Zen 4

And we've seen this theory from other people as well as to why Zen 5 for gaming was so underwhelming.

was that while the IPC changes did benefit some productivity tasks for the more latency sensitive stuff, we're still having to go through essentially the same IODI design as Zen 4.

And so that was a pretty significant limitation, at least in our opinion and our theory.

That is supposed to be changing with zen 6 as well so both the die design and the io die should be changing and both of those should be moving to new process nodes as well i believe so we could be even getting a two process node generation increase on the ccd which would allow them to do a lot more stuff in terms of you know performance efficiency performance per watt all the things that matter And so overall, you know, if we're thinking about all the Zen generations we've got previously, there's a lot of stuff happening this generation that, you know, it's shaping up to be one of the larger Zen changes.

And that can make a really big difference depending on what you're optimizing for.

Talk to me a little bit about Zen 4.

What is optimized for Zen 4? What does that tell us?

So specifically, I'm looking at the targets for their compiling, which is the x86-64v3 and v4.

This means that they are targeting modern hardware or relatively modern, like not necessarily the, you don't need to have last year's model, but you also aren't going to enjoy your time quite as much as if it was, if your hardware is say six years old compared to three years ago.
