It had, uh, secret passageways

When he purchased the house in '56, LaVey lived there with his first wife and their young daughter, Karla.

And as his interests in the supernatural deepened, he surrounded himself with a group of friends who were curious about the same things.

The Church of Satan sort of grew out of what he called the Magic Circle, and they were all intrigued by the weird and the unexplained.

Controversies made the news.

Famously, in 1967, he baptized his then three-year-old daughter Xena into the church, dedicating her to Satan while her mother, LaVey's second partner Diane Hegarty, looked on.

Satan, Lucifer, I command thee to come forth and bestow these blessings upon us.

Let me introduce you first though to Zeena LaVey.

Her father, Anton LaVey, is, I guess, the founding father of Satanism in this country.

Uh, he founding it at what? About 25 years ago, Zeena?

I hate you.

You killed my father." And so when she said that, I knew it was either Karla LaVey or Zeena LaVey, 'cause they were the two, uh, sisters from the royal family that were in the, the, um, royal coven, and they were all there that night.

And so I said, "Well, are you Karla or Zeena?" She said, "I'm Zeena." I said, "Well, Zeena, as you know, uh, we just cut your father's silver cord, and he is dead, because he was out on the astral plane where he shouldn't be, and, uh, he confronted us and lost.

So I would recommend you get back in your body immediately, or we'll cut your silver cord." And she said, "Don't do that.

I'll go." And instantly she was gone, and we looked at each other like, "Well, how about that?" We were used to long, hard fights, you know, rebuke, rebuke, uh, quote verses, uh, put their, the Bible over their heart.

We, we were used to, you know, fighting, and, um, neither of those were fights.

And it was then that we looked around at each other and said, "Well, I think God got a great victory tonight, and we've heard i- in the mouths of three witnesses, Deborah Joy, uh, uh, Leviathan, and Zeena, that he is dead." And of course, the next day, of course, we got the report from the news that, uh, he had died of, uh, a cardiac arrest, and, uh, which I guess happens when your spirit man is gone.

But anyway, that's the, the story, the amazing story of, um, the, uh, death of Anton LaVey, the rescue of, uh, Deborah Joy, and also the demise of the Church of Satan, because it never really recovered after that.
