Are you doing anything with Matter? Like, even, like, Matter over Wi-Fi or not at all?

Yeah, I have started playing around with that.

I have some thoughts.

Um, first of all, uh, I love this.

Uh, second, the, um, y- you're right about Zigbee and Z-Wave.

Like, this is something that I have, uh, struggled with in my time as, um, thinking of, you know, what about those devices that do require a physical USB stick? Um, shout-out here to, uh, Home Assistant, the ZWA2 and the ZBT1, the Zigbee and Z-Wave radios for, from Nabu Casa.

What does it do?

It cross-references the specific entity IDs of the user's live ZigBee or Z-Wave network.

It queries the documentation to ensure the service call structure hasn't been deprecated in the latest Home Assistant update.

That's smart.

Get things that are locally controlled.

Get Zigbee, get Z-Wave, get Matter devices.

There's Thread and Matter over Thread.

So there's multiple different types of protocols you can use.

I have a Zigbee antenna.

I have a

Z-Wave antenna.

So the device that I really want, I can just hook it up.

But let's go back and look at a set of exam objectives for the 220-1001.

1001 exam and in fact in here has a very similar style and format to it we have mobile devices we have networking we have hardware in fact it's a very similar layout cloud computing and then troubleshooting just like this is the core one exam by the way but in this list Under compare and contrast wireless networking protocols, we have ZigVee, Z-Wave, 3G, that very popular 3G protocol.

These are technologies that were on a version of this exam from many, many, many, many years ago.

And it's under Section 2.4, Wireless Networking Protocol.

And I'm going to go also back to the 1201 exam into the networking section just so you can get a feel for this.

Under networking and wireless, let's see if we even have... a section for wireless networking in the 1201 we don't no we do we absolutely do so let's look at that same section in this newest exam the 1201 it's section 2.2 explain wireless networking technologies we have frequencies for 2.45 and 60 gigahertz we have channels which have regulations including channel selection widths frequencies bands we have bluetooth 802.11 nfc and rfid No Zigbee.

No Z-Wave.

None of those protocols and methods that were primarily associated with IoT devices.

Settings gets a new connectivity page.

It groups Matter, Zigbee, Z-Wave, KNX, MQTT, Thread, Bluetooth, Serial, Infrared, Radio Frequency, Insteon, and tags behind one entry.

Voice assistants move down into the short second group in the settings route, and existing links still work.

Templates also get several improvements.

Core vacuum integrations were already migrated in 2026.8.

Custom integrations that still use that property need to expose a separate battery sensor instead.

Z-Wave JS actions for managing lock users and credentials now require an

administrator account.

being announced, and then Homey is adding some new software update support, which is gonna be really handy.

Basically, they're adding over-the-air firmware updates for Matter, Z-Wave, and Zigbee devices all through Homey natively.

So you'll be able to go into the Homey app and update all of these Matter, Zigbee, Z-Wave devices.

The Matter ones are going directly through Connectivity Standards Alliance like they would for Apple Home.

And then the Z-Wave and Zigbee ones are going through manufacturer apps that are pulled from the Homey app store.

But you'll still be able to do kind of all your firmware updates in one place, which is really nice.

A nice little quality of life update for Homey users out there.
