Yukon

Brian Boyle still remembers the day vividly.

At the time, he was a reporter at CBC Yukon.

The newsroom was, as you can imagine, chaos.

When reports that a possible hijacked Korean airliner was on its way to Whitehorse, Boyle headed to the airport.

White says it's a day he won't soon forget.

I think Whitehorse turned out to be just an excellent city and an excellent area for this to happen.

It's still not clear why that plane was sent to the Yukon capital.

I've never been to the Yukon, but it's a goal of mine.

Actually, there is a company in Ontario called CWF, and they do tours.

They're one of the very last organizations that does tours, and they did, I think, a two- or three-month tour in the Yukon, I believe, in May that they started, and they From what I heard from a couple of the wrestlers there, that the experience was amazing and they loved it.

But yeah, I don't know how much other wrestling would be up there, but I do know that the shows did relatively well.

So there is life in the Yukon and in the Northwest Territories.

But to me, like when I think of the Yukon or the Northwest Territories, I think of just camping.

Like to me, it's like a camping place.

Um, she just had a, a big smile that was infectious and would light up everyone around her.

Um, and that included from the small town that we grew up in, in, in Teslin, Yukon, to, to Whitehorse, where she would end her life.

Um, she, um...

I, I, I thought that she was so cool growing up, and I really deeply cared about her opinion and, and, uh, she would, she would-- If she didn't agree with something, she would ask questions in a compassionate way and really saw the best in people.

And I believe she had said that she wasn't feeling well or she was feeling off, and she went into the bathroom, and she was in there for a very long time.

And, uh, my youngest sister heard a noise and ended up going into the bathroom and seeing her unresponsive on the floor.

And the medical services in the Yukon are...

You know, they're not always right there when you need them, and that's not a fault on them.

At the Seward Skills Center, 17-year-old Megan Emrick was finishing a routine chore in the dormitory laundry room.

She was a student from the small town of Delta Junction, a girl who grew up hunting and fishing on the Yukon River.

The vocational school she was attending in Seward was a step toward a more independent future.

But at some point that evening, Megan walked out of that laundry room and was never seen again.

While the industry maintains these incidents are minuscule in frequency, for the Carver family, the lack of real-time reporting represents a permanent loss of justice.

Marianne was never found, leaving only an empty cabin and a series of bagged belongings as evidence of her final voyage.

On January 26th, 1950, a Douglas C-54 Skymaster carrying 44 people vanished into the icy wilderness of the Canadian Yukon, becoming one of aviation's most enduring mysteries.

The aircraft, serial number 42-72469, was flying what should have been a routine eight-hour journey from Anchorage, Alaska to Great Falls, Montana.

I've driven from Florida to Seattle.

I've driven through the Yukon Territory up to Alaska.

You know, it's just, it is what it is.

I love seeing things like that.

I have the original list in front of me, but yeah, so this is, our goal was the 60, but as you can see, it really got out of hand very, very quickly trying to keep track while we're all running and serving everyone.

But some of the crazy places we've had, we've touched every province, Vancouver, Nova Scotia, Whitehorse, Yukon.

We've had people overseas as well from Australia, Congo, Belarus.

They're not coming just for the restaurant, but they're in Canada, and everyone's pointing, you've got to go check out that restaurant, be part of the story.

I mean, come on, this is the most epic.

I know when she did Alaska, like a really big road trip through the Yukon and Alaska, Canada's Yukon, that was pretty epic.

This is like, Epic, epic.
