Yucca Mountain

Yeah, it's an interesting like balancing act kind of between the two.

And I think too, like obviously there's a thread there with Yucca and having that possibly, you know, souring our love for nuclear tech and everything like that.

Like, how do you think that kind of plays into the way that we view things here, Vogue, in terms of the nuclear conversation and our history with it as well?

I think what it comes down to is oftentimes, and I can't remember who had the quote, but, you know, people tend to refer to Nevada as the desert, like it's just a wasteland.

Here we go, talking about underground Nevada here and all the various things that are underneath this state and the tunnels that have been dug for various reasons.

Yucca Mountain for energy.

You had the, the, what was known as the Test Site for years, where there were nuclear explosions.

And then the premise for this segment was Barack Obama talking about, well, there are no underground...

...

so you'll be able to look back on some of those, and more of those will come in the future.

Uh, okay, there's also, also tunnels being, um, dug into Yucca Mountain.

Right.

I mean, they don't know what to do with the waste.

Yucca Mountain is not a safe repository.

And there's no place to put the stuff other than to dilution is the solution into the ocean.

Born and raised in South Dakota.

Had moved to Las Vegas to work on the Nevada test site as part of an environmental watchdog group associated with Yucca Mountain and got to do a lot of cool stuff from Noosing lizards.

Oh, wow.

To doing a bunch of small mammal work, Gamble's quail, all kinds of cool stuff.

Mountain is what that was called.

It was the Yucca Mountain Project.

They spent billions, like $1.5 billion, digging that hole out there in Yucca Mountain to put it all, but then Harry Reid and some of it fell apart.

When I worked there, that was still going on, but it finally fell apart.

Harry Reid, like, it was pretty brilliant because he marshaled a bunch of allies.

He was the former Senate Majority Leader from Nevada by making the point, well, if they bring it to Yucca Mountain, they're going to have to drive it through your state.

Do you want them driving it through your state? And got a bunch of, like, yeah.

So, like, so, but, like, hanging over all this is a pretty hilarious joke that tech guys went all in on, they played on themselves.
