Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher and Higher

After Mongo Santa Maria, we had Lalo Schifrin doing Blues A Go Go on the Verve label from 65.

And then we had Truman Thomas doing Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher and Higher on the Veep label from 67.

This is off of his Reuven LP.

And I'll tell you, I did not know this next fact until I played this song and somebody from the crowd came up and said, hey, what is this? I said, it's Instrumental Version of Your Love, Keep Listening to Me Higher and Higher by Truman Thomas.

This voice cannot believe me, I'm someone new Just like a fool, I believe that God Made my dreams all out of prayer Said I need someone, somebody help me Said I need someone, somebody help me Said I need someone, somebody help me To get myself back together Oh, darling, darling, darling Here I go, here I go, here I go Here I go again Speaking with my heart Here I go again Blinded by the dark I should have learned my lesson You hurt me before But every time I see you Here I go again, feelin' with my soul Here I go again, far beyond control I fall so very deep, there ain't no turning back.

Oh, oh, oh, darling, darling, darling.

for your dancing pleasure you just heard from archie bell and the drells doing here i go again on atlantic from 69 before that on columbia from 66 you had the spellbinders doing help me get myself back together again before that we had another parentheses song jackie wilson doing the actual version of your love keeps lifting me higher and higher on bronze but from 67 and we started off with bobby bland doing yum yum tree on the duke label from 1971.

So these next few songs that we're going to play for you, including the one we're going to close the show out with, are a grab bag of fun.

We're going to finish the episode with a, we call it a sing-along segment, but I'm actually going to play a recording of one of your arrangements that I sang with 180 singers two years ago in the Adelaide Fringe.

and that's your song Higher and Higher.

And we just had such a party, and it was exactly what you said, where the audience was all partying, singing at the top of their lungs, and the whole choir and stage was just manic.

Thanks so much for all your time, Mark.

Thank you for having me.

Well, that was my chat with Mark DeLisa, and I'm totally fangirling right now.

Today's sing-along segment, as promised, will be Mark's arrangement of Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher and Higher, made famous by Jackie Wilson.

So feel free to sing along with us wherever you're listening from.

Yeah.

And my favorite, of course, and I think your favorite, and a lot of everyone's favorite, is Jackie Wilson and his very uplifting song Higher and Higher.

So Jim, let's get high with the great Jackie Wilson.

[laughs] What do you say?

Keep on lifting me.

Higher.

Higher and higher.

Higher.

I'm going to do this.

He brings his all-star cast and does Higher and Higher by Jackie Wilson with an all-star cast.

It's fucking amazing.

I've seen seven different versions of it.
