Before he became an author, he had senior editorial roles in the Baltimore Sun, the San Francisco Chronicle, and the Houston Chronicle.

And since then, he's written some fantastic books, including The Monarch of the Green, which is a study of young Tom Morris, The Long Golden Afternoon, and then most recently Matchless, which explores the remarkable careers and the rivalry of Joyce Weathered and Glenna Collett, which is a fantastic book that I read recently.

Stephen, how would you describe Darwin's career and his importance to golf?

You know, I would start this way, Kenny.

Darwin was born September 7th, 1876, which is less than a year after the death of young Tom Morris, which is really the beginning of the modern age of golf, as I explain in that book.

And Darwin grows up in the age when Tommy is the game's hero and its first superstar.
