The public is divided on how the government should approach balancing the budget.

YouGov asked what the priority for the government should be when balancing the books: avoiding tax rises, avoiding spending cuts, or avoiding borrowing too much.

Twenty-nine percent of Brits say avoiding tax rises, another twenty-nine percent say avoiding cutting services, and twenty percent say avoiding borrowing too much.

So Brits in cake and eat it shock.

But let's be clear, the war in Iran is incredibly unpopular.

According to new polling from the Eurasia Group and YouGov, 75% of independents think Trump is doing a bad job handling the conflict.

So what is Trump's favorite television network to do? To find out, I'm joined by Matt Gertz, senior fellow at Media Matters.

Matt, welcome back to What Today.

And, you know, we still have a, a huge fleet of, uh, you know, US forces, uh, camped out over there.

But at, at Fox, they had just stopped paying attention.

So our friends at Pod Save the World got a look at new polling from the Eurasia Group and YouGov that shows the Iran war is polling at 34% with Americans, and pretty much everybody hates it.

And, and that number is beginning to include Republicans whose strong approval for the war has dropped 15 points since April.

In a vacuum, voters tend to strongly support Medicare for All, but that support starts to splinter once they're asked to consider raising taxes or removing private health insurance.

In June, a YouGov poll asked voters if they would, quote, support or oppose a national health plan in which all Americans get their health insurance from the federal government and private health insurance companies are eliminated, end quote.

Phrased that way, only 52% approved.

Separately, a Democratic political research firm asked Americans for their opinions on a very specific description of Medicare for All.

It's very closely divided.

Last week, St. Louis University and YouGov released a poll that showed 43% voting in favor, 44% opposed, and a lot of the others undecided.

So it's very close.

Unfortunately, we've lost a bit of ground.

Pro-Palestinian protests have led to far greater acceptance of recognition of Palestinian statehood, albeit once Hamas has been disarmed.

According to YouGov, 56% of Britain support the recent announcement by Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband to ban imports from Israeli settlements in the West Bank.

Yet how much of this sympathy is owed to what people see on social media and through their nightly news as opposed to mass protest on the streets is difficult to prove.

In any case, altering public opinion is difficult and prone to failure.

JustUp Oil ceased to exist in 2025 after it acknowledged that its tactics needed a rethink.

The September 2026 far-right demonstrations in Dover and Portsmouth, which involved mass protesters from the Patriot Platform Group, may have shone a light on illegal boat crossings, but appeared to have crossed the line for many ordinary members of the public.

A YouGov poll showed that 68% of Britain's support the police using powers to ban face coverings at demonstrations.

Perhaps it's the short-termism, the quick gimmick, the lack of a bigger picture that puts pressure groups at a disadvantage.

But it's really of interest.

And there's more YouGov economists, generic ballot crosstabs.

The recall Trump vote in this YouGov is 41-39, which is about right.

In other words, Trump has a narrow lead if you go by the 2024 election.

Democrats, 51.

have to tell you, if you are a Democrat and you are not excited about what you're seeing in these polls, you are not paying attention

Fifty-three percent of people who were polled.

This is a September 11 through 14 Economist YouGov poll of 1,416 U.S. registered voters.

Registered voters.

Fifty-three percent said Donald Trump is corrupt.

I think there's still a lot of affection for Harry.

Now, there was a YouGov poll out last week that said most members of the British public do not want them to have an official working royal role within the family, within the monarchy.

It doesn't stop people being interested in what they're doing.

And they're shiny and new.

Different generations disagree on a lot of things, but apparently they all agree on when it comes to where you eat, and that's Olive Garden.

YouGov says it's the most popular restaurant among millennials, Gen X, and baby boomers.

It was the highest ranked casual dining experience among other restaurants.
