You're the Voice

Céline

That she did a little version of You're The Voice.

I think I've got it here, a little bit of Céline's-

So good

...

You're The Voice.

Oh, yeah, we look at each other.

[singing]

We have the chance to turn the pages on We can write what we wanna write We gotta make ends meet before we get much older We're all someone's daughter Thank you.

John Farnham, you're the voice.

Fucking beautiful.

This was also a Top 40 Breaker clip on the 5th of June, 87.

Absolutely is.

Anyway, so that was interesting.

But going back to You're The Voice.

Farnham, Farnham, Farnham.

...

there is a video in the middle of this movie where they're running down the street and they are, this song is playing in the background, and it's called You're the Voice by John Farnham.

And this was a minor hit in 1990.

I mean, it really only made it to- 80-something, I think, so it wasn't that big of a hit.

And 1985, they thought his biggest successes were behind him.

Anyway, next thing you know, you're The Voice.

So you might want to talk about that too.

Pretty extraordinary song.

That's the situation there.

Whispering Jack was still missing something when a tape arrived from England.

The last song we found was You're the Voice.

A publisher insisted Farnham would love it.

So I'll speak with a music journo in the next hour, Christy Eliza, and we'll just reminisce about 40 years since that extraordinary...

A group of songs, 10 singles in total, some of the famous ones, of course, being You're the Voice and Touch of Paradise, Pressure Down, Reasons, all on that iconic album from 1986.

Scott Phillips, as I said, with all the finance and the interest rates.

Also, there's an Australian founder and CEO.

He had to sell his car.

He was renting in a Melbourne suburb called Bulleen in a house that he hated.

And so that's one of the things about You're the Voice and Whispering Jack is there's no sense of that panic that was happening around that time.

And even though a lot of people really, really liked Farnham as a person, no record company would touch him at that time.

That would have been the 90s.

Speaking of John Farnham, seven weeks at number one to become a cultural anthem in 1986, it was Whispering Jack himself with You're The Voice.

And here's the one that you're going to kick yourself for, Mr Barnes.

This is the one, okay.

Richard Marks performed as well.

Celine Dion made an appearance and she sang You're the Voice all the way from Paris where she's currently doing her show.

And then all wrapped up, of course, with everybody coming out on stage for You're the Voice, Tina Arena included.

It

was a massive finale to end an incredible night.

This took place on the 20th of September.

Of course, as we know from previous tours, etc., Celine, a big fan of John Farnham and particularly the song You're the Voice.

This is a song she performed in the show and have a listen to this.

Thank you.

Oh.

Oh.

Celine performing You're The Voice as part of the John Farnham Celebration concert held on the 20th of September.
