But either because they knew that Texans were the rear guard and feared to attack such desperadoes or were not fleet enough of foot to overtake us, we went peacefully on our way and overtook the main body of our army about four miles from the old colonial town of Williamsburg, with the proud and inspiring consciousness thrilling our patriotic bosoms of duty well performed by heroic efforts to get beyond reach of a dastardly enemy.

Yet, although terribly tired by the rapid march over eight miles of the muddiest road imaginable, we halted not an instant and, leaving Williamsburg to our left, hurried rapidly on toward York River.

And he knows those waterways well.

But I know that one of the things people have been asking on social media is, where are Keith and Sandy? Did they give you any indication as to where they think Keith and Sandy are?

All right, the farm.

The primary training for the mission took place at Camp Peary, Virginia, on the York River near Williamsburg.

This is the not-so-secret main CIA training location popularly known as the farm, but officially referred to as the Armed Forces Experimental Training Activity.

The project was assigned its own training complex within the larger facility.

There's so much more to be done.

But while Yorktown is mainly known as the setting for two major American wars, it's also known for its subsequent hauntings.

The town was established by the Virginia General Assembly in 1691, its location along the deep waters of the York River making it an important port town.

By the middle of the 18th century, Yorktown had nearly 2,000 residents in between 250 and 300 buildings, but its importance as a deep water port would eventually make it a military target.

In the summer of 1781, British General Charles Cornwallis arrived with approximately 8,000 soldiers.

They dug siege trenches, they positioned artillery, and bombarded the British troops.

On October 14th, American and French troops captured two key British positions known as Readouts 9 and 10, allowing Washington's artillery to move even closer.

British defenses began to collapse, and an attempted evacuation across the York River was disrupted by a sudden storm.

On October 19th, 1781, Cornwallis surrendered.

The first epidemic may have resulted from another exchange that happens in 1561, a kidnapping, the second type of exchange between Europeans and natives.

It happens when a young York River native, the nephew of the local chief and probably a relative of Powhatan of some sort, was kidnapped by a Spanish crew.

They took him back to Spain and after an education in Hispanic cultural ways and forced to learn their language and being converted over to the religion, He was in Spain and then later came back to Havana, Cuba.

He was baptized as Don Luis de Velasco.

And nine years after he was removed from the mainland, he would come back, leading a small party of Jesuit missionaries to that York River area or peninsula where he had lived before.

He is going to advertise in his new tongue as he had told them it was a land of milk and honey, and that's why that priest would go there.

What the priest found, though, was famine and death.

If this were the case, then Pocahontas' mother could not have died in childbirth.

While Pocahontas is generally believed to have been born in the village of Werowocomoco, her father's capital, on the north bank of the York River, opposite the narrow Virginia Peninsula, the Mataponi tradition claims that she was born at her mother's native village between the Pamuncay and the Mataponi rivers, two of the main tributaries of the York River.

This would explain her name, Matoaka, which probably meant flower between two streams.

Pocahontas' life is the tale of the interaction between two nations, her native Powhatan people and the English settlers who founded the Jamestown colony in Virginia.
