Yesterday Once More

John Bettis largely agreed with Richard about the absence of a hit.

Bettis was Richard's longtime songwriting partner and the lyricist behind many of the Carpenters' biggest records, including Top of the World, Yesterday Once More, and Only Yesterday.

He understood better than almost anyone how Richard thought about songs and commercial potential.

But Bettis reached a different conclusion about what Richard should have done.

And I think my favorite sweet song that I haven't written would probably be I would say a Carpenter song because Karen Carpenter is one of my favorite singers ever.

And there's one song called Yesterday Once More by the Carpenters.

And I know everyone says it's their favorite Carpenter song and it is for me too.

But there's something about the way that she sings it that I just cry every time.

Even I can just play it over and over and it's still so emotional to just hear the emotion in her voice.

So yeah, Yesterday Once More for sure.

I wasn't expecting that.

I love that.

Thank you for listening.

We've got Robin Mossie coming up after five with Yesterday Once More.

I think there's a news of five.

And go and support the arts.

Exactly.

So we've got Robert Mossi coming up after the news at five with Yesterday Once More.

We've got some messages coming up, and then we're going to end the show off with Lave with Madwoman.

We talked about her a couple of weeks ago.
