But I saw that band open for Jenna Tortures at the Ritz in Ybor City in Tampa.

And I was like, they asked me to join the band.

And I was like, wait a second, this band opened for Jenna Tortures.

So Grand Cathedral, so everybody understands Grand Cathedral is a cigar bar towards Ybor City in Tampa.

It is an old church.

They made it very nice.

So I told the waitress at the restaurant last night, I said, I'm going to Ybor City after this.

She goes, my God, they'll kill you.

will not i know she i thought she was a heavyset girl with glasses i mean you know and she ended up coming back to lakinta so uh um

I would imagine, you know, at least some kind of a crazy headache, you know? I mean, especially if you're eating your stepmother's skin at the same time, you know what I mean? It's a contact high from just the shame.

You know what I mean? Maybe a little glass of urine that you bought off of a homeless girl.

So

I guess technically my first live performance was I got on stage with my dad at a gig in Ybor City when I was probably like five or six years old and did a Beatles song with him.

you know i learned it at home with him and you know just singing though you know he's playing guitar and i was just singing along uh so that i guess that would qualify as my first live performance but um yeah you know so my dad was always playing guitar at home and so obviously it it seems like it's in our blood it was just natural so i i you know i started picking up the guitar learning learn a few chords here and there and just kind of really self-taught you know um some of the uh you know first records that i remember purchasing were like a lot of the acdc records and and uh kiss kiss was big uh but i i think the the the game changing record was one that my dad actually said hey you should really check this out the first black sabbath lp and when i heard that that was like the game changer for me you know that that that record you know i i loved the acdc records kiss records they were fun they were just some music got you moving but that, that black Sabbath record put a different feeling.

And, you know, it was like a little chilling and haunting and, uh, you know, just for music to make you feel that way.

But in terms of like the local clubs where you would see local bands and some smaller touring bands, some of my first shows were like at the Sunset Club, which was a really small club out close to the University of South Florida.

There was the Empty Keg, which was actually on the campus at USF.

saw a lot of great shows there like sonic youth and uh volcano zones a lot of those kind of like college fringe punk bands fire hose played there you know um there was a club called the generic club in ybor city that did some really good shows like the accused and gbh played their adolescence played there um we would do we would would have these uh local fests called slam fests back in the day um And I remember seeing a slam fest there at the generic club with no fraud.

I can't remember if Pink Lincolns played that one or not, but all the larger Florida bands would play those.

We did.

And we had a report from Ybor City, which is in Tampa, Florida.
