Yawuru

Well, I was born in Broome.

My people are the Yawuru people from this immediate area, uh, my grandfather's people.

My grandmother was one of the first stolen generation taken from Bunuba country, which is Fitzroy, uh, Geiki Gorge area, for those that aren't aware of that.

They met in Beagle Bay Mission.

So he evacuated us, uh, my mother and three children at that stage, down to Chinatown, and we took refuge at, at Tangway's.

And then we lived in the boarding house with him for a short while.

And so, um, your father, our grandfather, being Chinese, and then your mother being Yawuru Bunuba- ... woman, so an indigenous woman.

How does that happen? How do they get together? It can't have been easy back then.
