M250 light machine gun

"Israeli company Israel, Israel Aerospace Industries, IAI, and US firearms manufacturer Sig Sauer have completed a live fire test of the Firestorm 250, a vertical take-off and landing, VTOL, drone armed with an M250 light machine gun." Yes, yes, yes.

I would love more Israeli drones with Americans' LMGs, or Sig LMGs in this case.

I love this so much.

Maybe this is just the way it starts, okay? During the test, the drone reportedly hovered over a simulated battlefield that looked like a school for some reason, identified targets using its onboard camera, and engaged them in single shot and semi-automatic firing modes.

According to IAI, the trials also assessed the system's accuracy and built-in safety features.

The M250 machine gun is mounted on Sig Sauer's remotely operated Micro Light Weapon System.

The combined weight of the station, gun, and ammunition is approximately 53 pounds.

Next Gen Squad Weapon, that's what it's called, Next Generation Squad Weapon.

Uh, it also rolls the y- the Sig M250 machine gun, which replaces the M249 SAW, if you're old enough to remember that.

Well, not, it's still around, so you know what I'm getting at.

Anyway, both weapons share a, an ammunition caliber of 6.8 times fiv- 51 millimeter.

So they're adding two new belt-fed machine guns to the platoon.

You got the M250 and the larger caliber MG338.

Originally, the M250 was meant just to replace the smaller caliber M249 SAW that is in the other three maneuver squads in the platoon.

But just in the past year, the Army's been doing something interesting behind the scenes with the M250 that indicates that that might no longer be the case.

They've been upgrading the M250 based on feedback from soldiers who are actually using it, and some of those changes are interesting because they make the weapon look less like this kind of automatic rifle and more like an actual crew-served machine gun.

What do I mean by that? Look at the newest and biggest change to the M250.

It now has a quick change barrel for the first time.

The original M250 didn't have the ability to rapidly swap out an overheated barrel after you just went full send for, like, three minutes in a row.
