This was reported by, um, Ars Technologia back in, uh, 2023, quote, "More than 1,000 known child sexual abuse materials, CSAM, were found in a large open data set known as, uh, LAION-5B that was used to train popular text-to-image generators such as Stable Diffusion.

Uh, Stanford Internet Observatory researcher David, uh, Thiel relieved, uh revealed rather, 'Our new investigation reveals that these, uh, models are trained directly on CSAM present in a public database of billions of images.' The data set included, uh, known CSAM scraped from a wide array of sources, including mainstream social media websites like Reddit, X, WordPress, and Blogspot, as well as a popular adult video sites like xHamster and Xvideos.

Beyond verifying 1,008 instances, uh, of this kind of material in the data set, SIO found 3,226 instances of suspected CSAM in the data set.

Uh, Thiel's report warned that both figures are inherently a significant undercount due to, uh, researchers' limited ability to detect and flag all the CSAM in the data sets.

And other pornography sites, Xvideo, XNXX, I don't know if XHamster does it, but like, I can't look at any of those sites unless I make an account and prove that I am an adult.

And I'm like, all right, well, thankfully, I have been a horrifyingly massive pervert for most of my life.

So I have old, but definitely downloaded pornography on my computer.

Rather than take on the catastrophic cybersecurity liability and the massive financial compliance costs of building these honeypots for a fragmented patchwork of conflicting state laws, major digital service providers simply turned off access to entire states.

Platforms like Pornhub, XHamster, and several others have completely geo-blocked users with IPOSs originating in Louisiana, Texas, Utah, Montana, and others.
