X-Men

It feels like the Wolverine that we've seen, uh, in media.

Not particularly like Hugh Jackman, who- Hugh Jackman's Wolverine per se, but if you grew up like me watching, like, X-Men, uh, in the '90s and, uh, Wolverine and the X-Men and X-Men Evolution, it kinda feels like that type of Wolverine, right? But in regards to, like, he is so nice in this game.

Mm-hmm.

Yeah.

Mm-hmm.

And that's fine, but ultimately I think the overarching point of this story is that this is a world before mutants really were worldwide and known.

This is a thing that is, like, kind of an origin of an origin, not only just of X-Men, but of kind of Wolverine's agency in the fight against, uh, mutant oppression.

And I think that's kind of softened in this story.

We got an angel, people.

We have ourselves an official X-Men casting, uh, apparently.

I don't know.

I saw a new Rockstars post, and I went, "Must be real," but we have a Hollywood Reporter post pulled up here.

So what's your...

What, what are your, uh, what are the things that you would s- I love asking you these questions because I've only, like, in the past year been getting into a lot more X-Men comics.

What would you say-- I feel like Warren Worthington's a lot easier to kinda get down of, like, what to narrow it down with.

It's kind of baffling how repetitive this game is.

And not only is it repetitive, the things that are repetitive are so dated that I make the point in my review, for a long time everyone was referencing the Raven Software Wolverine game, the X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and this game's, like, identical to it in so many ways.

Apart from the fact that it's absolutely beautiful, from a gameplay perspective it is so similar to games of that generation that I can't help but feel massively disappointed.

It's also so patronizing to the player in so many different ways that we'll get into.

But I, this is me just being somebody who consumes movies probably and moves on.

It gave me such a different and new respect for Hugh Jackman.

From the moment we meet him in X-Men 1, right? He is a tortured soul.

The, you know, the shotgun to the back of the hair.

It makes sense.

I love the integration of Bruce Banner as the Hulk, and I love the integration of Jean Grey from the upcoming X-Men movies.

And again, cynically, people can be like, oh, it's just setting up future Marvel stuff.

I think that they've really cleverly woven in Marvel characters who... that support peter parker's story okay you've got bruce banner who's struggling with identity identity who am i which one am i am i the hulk or my bruce banner exactly the same as peter parker and then you've got jean gray who's struggling with these like huge powers and is alone and thinks that she's got no one to to help her and she does by the end of it and this movie this the third most successful of all time this huge marvel blockbuster doesn't end with a laser in the sky the world's gonna end i'm gonna turn everyone into lizards it ends with a girl in a bedroom talking to Aunt May.
