And it was not, I mean, it is, it is brought up in the, I guess they're calling it the X trilogy.

I don't know why, but Pearl X and Maxine

just call it triple X. It's fine.

I mean, uh...

And so and then he tells him to there's an X there.

Look at that X.

Think of the scariest thing you can think of.

And while he's talking to him, that shot that we see in the movie is actually Lucas Haas react looking at the X, but reacting to what Peter Weir is saying to him of like.

This movie's falling apart.

This moment needs to work.

But I remember feeling this exact same way about Pearl when that movie was coming out.

I thought X was such a perfect open and shut case.

And then we saw two more movies, one of which, the prequel, might be even better than X.

And then, you know, Maxine was also cool.

Maxine was all right, but I could have been fine with that being a duology.

Robocop to me is a film where you're following a main character who isn't necessarily the hero of the story.

And I think that's what makes it so interesting.

It's kind of like Saw X in that way, where John Kramer isn't a good guy, but you are still kind of rooting for him in a way.

And that's how we have this cast for Maxine.

And we had bore witness to X and Pearl together.

breathlessly coming out in the same year, 2022.

And we've already discussed in our previous two episodes how that came to be.

It's not to say that she has no agency.

It's not to say that she doesn't get a monologue, but it's at the very beginning of the film.

And I think that If you were to watch X and you could get the sense, okay, this is a movie that very much relies on her very capable shoulders because she's playing two characters.

And towards the end of the film, she is really the only one that is there because she's also speaking to herself, hero versus villain.

It is Pearl from 2023.

I want to say Ty West Pearl, the middle movie in the X trilogy.

I think it's, far and away the weakest entry in that trilogy i think x is a good movie and i really liked maxine actually but boy pearl for me was a movie that is tedious and it's drawn out and it's it's all a mia goth showcase and i get that mia goth is a great actress i'm not knocking her but that's all it is is just a showcase for her to do wacky shit like there's the story is idiotic the uh the The beginning of the movie and the end of the movie, no progress has been made.

If nothing in the movie Pearl happened, the character of Pearl still goes through the exact same character arc in her life.

Nothing changes in the movie that turns her into what she becomes the character of in X. It's just like, oh, here's some shit that happened to Pearl when she was younger.

And I...

I just didn't like it.

I don't buy the hype on either of those.

I mean, Weapons is very much a hag exploitation film.

If you look at X, I mean, X is a hag exploitation film as well.

Oh, X is, yeah.

X is

great.

That is a

classic.

X really pushes the exploitation elements to a whole other level, though.

Then Hocum, which is also crazy.

I don't think that's Damian McCarthy's best movie, but then we got The Ritual and then we got X.
