Wrong-way driving

I do want to turn to the biggest story of recent weeks, of course, the M9 crash and everything that has emerged since then.

There have been 43 wrong-way driving incidents on the M18, N18 since 2019, including eight already this year.

Indeed, days after the incident on the M9, one of our own colleagues had a run-in with a car travelling the wrong way in a slip road on the motorway down here from Gort.

What needs to be done to tackle this problem? We've heard the Justice Minister, Jim O'Callaghan, saying there'll be pursuit training for guards, although we've heard that because of our presidency of the EU, that resources, guard resources, are greatly needed for those various events and it would be difficult to avail a pursuit training.
