everyone i'm meteorologist scotty powell here in garden city and we are going to be talking about the king tides uh we've been talking about all week how king tides are really starting to peak uh this week especially over the last few days and what is a king tide well really it's the highest high tide cycle of the year and this happens occasionally around four maybe six times a year on the grand strand uh but really this is one of the higher highest tide cycles that we've seen so far this year across the Grand Strand and it happens when the sun and the moon kind of line up with earth the gravitational pull and especially if the moon is closer to the earth it kind of just really high heightens that high tide and then the northeast winds that we've been seeing all month long is really just even add on to that so that's why we are seeing some of the highest tide cycles here so you can see behind me in Garden City people are out walking in it I don't know why you would do that But really a lot of people were out driving in it.
