WPDH

The folksy Americana of Prairie Home Companion, Celtic fiddle tunes on the Thistle and Shamrock, or, God forbid, opera on Morning Promusica.

Two hours on the school bus each day, on the other hand, provided my education in classic rock from WPDH, which the driver would put on to mollify the quote-unquote bad kids, and I'd learn more from rating my Boomer parents' record collection, helped by The Beatles, Beach Boys Party, The Freewheeling, Bob Dylan, and more.

But by the time the music bug really bit, we had moved to an apartment in the old train station in High Falls.

Unlike at the cabin, in High Falls we could actually get cable television, which meant I finally had access to the wonders of MTV, just as the early 90s alternative boom took over, and I was hooked.
