WOWO

My grandfather had me listening to the Reds on radio in his truck, my mom, my dad.

It was just a part of my life, everyday life growing up, and I discovered the great AM radio stations, WoWo in Indiana, WSB in Atlanta, WLW Cincinnati, and I knew by the age of eight or so, that's what I wanted to do, was to be on the radio.

My grandparents and I went to Beckley when I was a kid, and we stopped by a hardware store, and they were doing a live broadcast of some kind, kind of a culmination of a big contest or something, and you had to be present to win.

There were probably 200 or so people there waiting for their name to be drawn to win whatever prize it was.

So this is the countywide fire and emergency medical services consolidation thing that's popping up here in Allen County.

I know that Ron Turpin has been on WoWo a lot and has defended it.

There's even an article on our affiliate station, wowo.com, where it kind of goes over him defending it.

He did do an interview.

And, of course, there's concerns.

I mean, you're making a big change here, right? So there's concerns.

When Turpin was on WoWo with Kayla, he said that the proposed budget should be viewed against what local fire districts, a fire territory and participating townships are already spending.

So he said the combined 2026 budgets for the four fire districts, one fire territory and townships expected to join the new district total about $48.2 million.
