World Athletics Ultimate Championship

And, uh, we did have some big league meets going off this weekend that were handled in a variety of ways.

But where do you wanna start? Do you wanna start with athlos, or would you like to start with World Road?

I mean, I, I loved the World Road Championships.

Yeah.

I, I gotta say, even old, old Adam Goucher was like, "Damn, that looks fun.

Yeah.

He won two Diamond Leagues.

He, you know, he closed really well at World Ultimates.

Let's begin on running subjects.

And to begin with, last word on the Ultimate Championships.

I thought they were a great success.

I mean, obviously, we said after the podcast, the three podcasts we did, that they were a great success.

Because I still stand by, I think the narrative of Ingebrigtsen against five Americans, the picture of him beating the five, the canon Ethiopian dethrone, whatever, the same story was the Americans in the 1500 meter races, Jamaica, USA in the sprints.

It makes for stories that then the national vests contribute to that do not exist in a Diamond League event.

And so, therefore, it makes it more distinctive for the Ultimate Championships.

And that's World Athletics' problem.

So I do think there is a bit of an old school kind of mentality with that.

I will say the World Ultimate Championships, which the piece ran around, which just happened, it's definitely not like embracing gambling, but it did have these predicted finishes of the athletes competing.

They were hilariously wrong.

Like, I don't know who was making the odds, but...

I mean, we'll see in a couple of days.

I haven't seen them up yet.

And there was on World Ultimate Championships, not on every event.

On Calshi now, there were odds about world records the entire season and then there are some about races so now most there are odds about major marathons usually like who's mostly outright winners and then for Kaoshi if world records will be broken and a funny story is that they place yes no odds on basically all the events for world record And they placed them after Jacoby Tharp won the 110 meters at the NCAA championship.

And I think during my career, again, it was like more athletes were kind of getting exposed to it but it's now it's i feel like everyone absolutely every athlete that's at these championships are playing around with altitude whether it's training and so therefore going back to the nairobi point and the uh difficulties facing the athletes racing altitude I think, unlike Mexico City, where there would have probably been athletes that went there having never even experienced running at our shoot, I think this championship, the athletes generally will be much more aware of the challenges at hand and should be more prepared.

It's a really good point, the growth of... altitude and and how it has been used and maybe that has uh i mean looking back at the ultimate championships how great was it to see in the distance races that domination of east african athletes born at altitude really really shaken up i mean what did the americans have in the um

oh it's huge numbers wasn't

it second third fourth fifth In the 5k, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 7th maybe, packing in there.

And it will be used even more so in the build-up to the championships in Nairobi.

Absolutely.
