Working dog

So last year and this year they have very kindly given us a marquee and both years that has been on the Yellow Brick Road.

So basically, we've been on the Yellow Brick Road stop for the working dogs, so we're alongside them.

So we, they all stop and Basically, if they gave out, you know, for instance, if they had 100,000 people through and they gave out 60,000 yellow brick road bags, that means that we've given out ultimately 60,000 packs over the space of the seven days.

It was mind-blowing to see that we had a little tractor from McIntosh, which is one of our machinery dealerships that support us.

So he had to go and sit down.

But yeah, Prickle, she was absolutely loving it.

And I think that, you know, that's an amazing testament to what, animals and working dogs can achieve.

You know, we can see them do so much in the paddock, but they know more about us than what we know about us.

And we brought them in to talk about working dogs, canines.

The Fresno Sheriff's Office lost a canine back at Fourth of July.

And the need is kind of always present.

Officer, I want to start with you.

Whenever we talk about this, we always get the question, well, why does it cost $25,000? let's start there why does it cost 25 000 or well actually more than that

most of the time these dogs they're they're imported from europe so um they're in europe uh the tradition of using police dogs or working dogs even in sport uh it's it's genetics a lot of them a lot of the aspects that we look for in a dog they're genetic and so they breed dogs there for the genetics a lot of the dogs here have been bred for show for suitability in a home and that's not really what we're looking for in in a working dog because the dogs there they have 100 years of tradition in working lines and breed lines.

So a lot of that comes from that.

So, um, why is the Malinois the strongest or currently the best out of those four? Uh, I can't give you an answer on that because when I was young we saw Groenendaels, Tervurens, and Laekenois in the, in the working dog sports.

I assume that only the genetics of the Malinois, uh, survived out of that.

The Malinois back in the days was a, was, was a farm dog.

He's no stranger.

Midwest Working Dog Association.

A legend.

A legend.

They get Dalmatians and they don't understand one, how intelligent they are, uh, two, how energetic they are.

And they're like, they're working dogs.

Yeah, they used to lead horses.

I'm sure their confidence level gave horses so much more calm in the midst of having to go into very stressful environments, huh?

Yeah.

Well, and so that's, they've got to be careful working dogs and service animals are different.

Gotcha.

Just like, just like therapy dogs, facility dogs and emotional support animals are, Oh, I was about to say,

Of the animals that you have seen outside of dogs, I think I've only seen dogs being service dogs or service animals.

Service animals, yeah.

Just like working dogs can only be working dogs.

Yeah, yeah, exactly.
