The writings were smuggled out of Evin Prison at considerable risk to the people who helped get them out.

The book's publication comes into the context of Women, Life, Freedom, a movement that emerged after the death of Masha Amini in 2022.

There is particularly striking detail.

Mohammadi is no longer in prison, but she remains unable to leave Iran.

Four years ago this week, 22-year-old Masa Jina Amini was killed after being detained by Iran's so-called morality police.

Her death ignited the Women, Life, Freedom movement and helped transform Iranian society.

Now, four years later, what did that movement actually change? And could the massive nationwide uprising we witnessed this January have happened without it?

There is the Iranian people and then there's the Islamic Republic and there are these two forces at constant odds with each other since its formation in 1979.

But we also have two beautiful girls of our own family under torture, brutal torture in the Islamic Republic prison.

And, you know, we're talking right now at the the week of the anniversary of Masa Amini, when you know what? Take me back to 2022 and and to your present now.

Did you ever think that something like this would happen? I mean, we were all impacted by Women Life Freedom, but it seems like when it comes to January 8th and 9th, we We all know somebody, whether it's a family member, a friend, a friend of a family member, etc., etc., where something awful like this has happened.
