Witr

Barakallah fikum.

So, uh, we're moving on to the next question from one of the listeners says that, "The Dua Qnoot that is read in Witr of Isha, I get very confused, so I read three times Rabbana atina.

Is that okay?"

So in Witr it is Wajib according to the Hanafi Madhab to recite Dua after saying the extra Takbir in the third Rakat.

And the preferable recitation is, uh, Allahumma inna nastainuka wa nastaghfiruka ila akhiril Dua.

You may also, for a, a reason if you do not know the Dua, then you read Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanah wa fil-akhirati hasanah wa qina 'adhaban-nar.

He also used to recite it in Sunnah al-Maghrib, the two rak'ahs after al-Maghrib.

He used to recite Al-Ikhlas in Salat al-Witr.

He also used to recite it in the two rak'ahs after the Tawaf around the Ka'bah.

And there are some reports that he used to recite it in Salatul Istikhara, when he's seeking goodness from Allah.

You have access to dua right now.

There is also a special dua you may hear during Al-Witr, especially when praying at the masjid.

This is called Dua Al-Qunut.

Al-Hasan ibn Ali radiAllahu anhuma said that the messenger of Allah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam taught him words to say in Al-Witr.

[foreign language] It is a beautiful supplication, asking Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala for guidance, well-being, His care, blessing in what He gives us, and protection from evil.

There are differences among the schools of Islamic law concerning exactly when Dua Al-Qunut is made in Al-Witr and how regularly it is practiced.

That is why you may visit different mosques and notice differences.

Those differences do not mean somebody automatically has to be doing something wrong.

So I'm saying this, and I'm saying this dua that we learned, huh, and what are the two, the last two surahs that we recite every single day before we sleep? Subhanallah.

It is Salat al-Witr.

And in Salat al-Witr, the Sunnah is to recite Surat Al-A'la in the first rakah, Qul ya ayyuhal kafirun in the second rakah, and Qul huwallahu ahad in the third rakah.

So here, Qul ya ayyuhal kafirun, I'm denying all the kufr before I go to sleep.

And I'm confirming the tawhid, that I am a muwahid, I am a Muslim, I, I believe in la ilaha illallah.
