Matt Geske said the one that comes to mind off the top is Without You by Nielsen.

Love ballad, yes.

Dramatic ballad, 100%.

She's got another one, Un-Break My Heart.

That one's probably on the same bandwidth.

And CJ Julianus says, I Can't Live or Without You by Harry Nilsson.

All of them really good responses.

So don't expect me to be your friend.

I believe you've been listening a lot to songs like Nilsson's Without You and Mack Davis' Baby Don't Get Hooked On Me when you got to write that one.

Once again, usually I had a lyric idea before I started, but I decided that Without You by Nilsson's probably in my top three all-time records.

It was 1972 that you had the follow-up album, and of course, that had the terrific hit on it, I'd Love You To Want Me.

I believe you'd been listening to people like Nilsson's Without You.

Uh, he was a guy I, I heard a lot growing up.

I, I would h- you know, the, the light rock stations my mom would listen to in the car, I would hear his version of Without You and Everybody's Talkin'.

And it's, this is one of those songs where if you hear it a bunch as a kid, you don't realize how subtly weird it is.

Or maybe weird is too strong a word, but, like, you listen to it later on as an adult, and you notice, like, he's singing about feeling all alienated o- over this, like, very soft, placid music, and it sounds very, it, it sounds very dissociative.

The Beatles were huge fans.

But he did not write his two biggest hits, which were Everybody's Talkin' and, uh, Without You.

He'd had quite a long career before he became kind of the unofficial go-to for English punk.

In fact, he'd also mixed Nilsson's number one hit, his cover of, uh, Badfinger's Without You.

So all this stuff is kinda weird how it intertwines.
