Um, and I, I think I've talked about this before on the show, that there's this mini wave of bands right now that have, uh, been drawing on sort of the co- the combinations of, like, rock and dance music that were coming out of England in the '80s and '90s.
Steven HydenHOST
33:15
Uh, there's a great record from Wishy, uh, called Nature's Pill that I'm a big fan of, that has a lot of, kind of, Madchester, uh, vibes to it.
Steven HydenHOST
33:24
Uh, there's another band called Young Gov that was similarly kinda drawing from that, like, late '80s, early '90s Madchester, Happy Mondays, Stone Roses type thing.
Steven HydenHOST
33:34
Which I've always been a fan of.
Steven HydenHOST
33:58
Uh, but yeah, it, it, it's, it's a really good record.
Steven HydenHOST
34:00
I don't know if you've listened to this at all, Ian.
Ian CohenHOST
34:02
Yeah, I like the singles I've heard and I definitely put it alongside Wishy, which is an album I've really gotten into over the past couple of weeks.
Ian CohenHOST
34:09
Now I li- like to settle for me.
Chris McShaneHOST
20:51
Hopefully it's not another 60, uh, episodes before there's a- another King Gizz record that I want to recommend.
Brian SalvatoreHOST
20:58
So for my album pick this week, I am going to talk about the new record from Wishy.
Brian SalvatoreHOST
21:05
Uh, I think I heard about these guys from, uh, Steven Hyden, who's one of the music writers that I read the most closely, but I can't be totally sure.
Brian SalvatoreHOST
21:15
But they released an album a, a year or two ago that I enjoyed, and it was sort of '90s coded, which if you know me, that is sort of my jam.
Brian SalvatoreHOST
22:55
Um, and yeah, uh, this is one of my favorite records that's come out this autumn so far, maybe even the year.
Brian SalvatoreHOST
23:01
I haven't even started thinking about, like, a year-end list or whatever.
Brian SalvatoreHOST
23:05
I'll probably do one for my Substack, briantzinab.substack.com. Um, but yeah, this record by Wishy is called Nature's Pill, and if you are of a certain age or enjoy music of a certain age, I think you'll enjoy it.
Brian SalvatoreHOST
23:22
And thank you so much for listening.
speaker_0HOST
1:00
So here's a few newer releases that I've been enjoying lately.
speaker_0HOST
1:04
So starting off with Wishy's Nature's Pill.
speaker_0HOST
1:08
Their previous album, Triple Seven, was a great intro to the band for anyone who hasn't seen them and they kind of had this rise and a lot of people got their eyes on them and nature's pill really lets them kind of continue on that trajectory and they kind of go ham a little bit really pumping into those bright hooky riffs and they're honestly they're just having fun I really enjoy the album.
speaker_0HOST
1:33
It's a good progression for them.
Greg GloverHOST
12:23
Dancing Hood's were from New York City.
Greg GloverHOST
12:24
And And before that, from Indianapolis, the Shoegaze Band, Wishy.
Greg GloverHOST
12:28
New music from them with a track called Sensational.
Greg GloverHOST
12:31
Right now, I've got a brand new one from Caroline Rose from the new album Gentling the Horse.

Our guests this week on the podcast are Wishy.

The Indianapolis indie rock five-piece formed when Kevin Crowder and Nina Pichkaidis, two solo artists who had been quietly building their own paths through the indie rock scene, decided to join forces and build something together, rounding out the lineup with three fellow musicians to complete the band.

Their music has been described as destined for the bait shop if the OC was still in the air, and it is not hard to hear why, with Wishy's music sounding like a beautiful pastiche of indie rock, power pop, grunge and shoegaze that has earned them praise from the likes of Pitchfork, NME and Stereogum, and landed them on the best of lists at the end of 2024 from publications like the New York Times and GQ.

In 2025, the momentum continued with a follow-up EP, a performance on Stephen Colbert, and a run of tour dates with Mama that brought them through LA, which is where I was lucky enough to catch them live when we were out there for the podcast.

Last week, Wishy returned with Nature's Pill, their sophomore record, and another gorgeous collection of guitar-driven songs that sound like a band fully hitting their stride.
Simon FinckHOST
1:23
Today, we're sitting down with Kevin and Nina to talk about the process of making Nature's Pill and how some of these songs first came to life.
Simon FinckHOST

We discuss how operating with two primary songwriters works and the vulnerability that comes with sharing new songs with your bandmates.

Hello and welcome to Trusty Chords, the podcast which aims to celebrate music and those that create it.
Tyler JenkeHOST

If you're someone who likes their indie rock and alternative music with a healthy dose of shoegaze, well I reckon you'd do pretty well to check out Wishy.
Tyler JenkeHOST
0:28
Why is that you ask? Well it's probably because that's exactly what the Indiana Outfit have been dishing out for the past five years.
Tyler JenkeHOST
0:34
Coming together thanks to high school friends Kevin and Nina, the former of which used to be in the now defunct Hoops and the latter used to record under the name Pushpop, which you wasted no time in making themselves heard.
Tyler JenkeHOST
0:54
If you've not yet heard that record, or the first one for that matter, I implore you to give it a try.
Tyler JenkeHOST
0:58
It's a wonderful piece of work with sensational songwriting, amazing performances, and a truly stellar ability to craft some immersive compositions.
Tyler JenkeHOST

This week, well we actually recorded this back in late July, I was lucky enough to have a chat with Kevin and Nina about the formation of Wishy, how their second album came to be, and whether we'll be welcoming them to Australian shores soon, or whether that's just wishyful thinking.
Tyler JenkeHOST
1:22
Anyway, once you forgive me for that terrible pun, have a listen to Wishy's Nature's Pill, have a listen to our chat, and I'll see you at the end of the episode for some general housekeeping.
Nina CorcoranHOST
20:55
Yeah, I also had some picks like that.
Nina CorcoranHOST

Joel RiglerHOST
15:48
is going to be the second album that you're going to hear two tracks from, Nature's Pill, coming up later in the show.
Steven HydenHOST
53:11
So he still has that element, but, uh, I would say he's pretty much stripped that out of his sound on this record and presented much more of like a, again, old school indie rock type record that I like quite a bit.
Steven HydenHOST
53:24
But what I'm going to actually put in my official recommendation corner this week is a band from Indianapolis called Wishy.
Steven HydenHOST
53:31
And this is a band that I started becoming a fan of in 2024 when they put out their debut album, Triple Seven.
Steven HydenHOST
53:37
And at the time, they were really looked at as part of this wave of shoegaze-sounding bands that were really taking hold at that time.
Steven HydenHOST
54:16
And it's an album that, you know, you can definitely talk about in those moments.
Steven HydenHOST
54:21
sort of backward ways referring to albums from the past.
Steven HydenHOST
54:24
But to me, what makes Wishy really stand out among young indie rock bands is their attention to craft.
Steven HydenHOST
54:31
This band is just really good at writing songs.
Jasmine WallisHOST
28:47
Okay, now it's time for music.
Jasmine WallisHOST
28:50
One of my favorite parts of our favorites podcast and an album that I am loving listening to, which has been in my on repeat for like months is the band Wishy and their debut studio album, Triple Seven.
Maggie ZhouHOST
29:05
I've not heard of Wishy.
Maggie ZhouHOST
29:06
Who are they? I think you'd
Jasmine WallisHOST
