Wisdom

The other strategy is often seen in seabirds that are much longer-lived is you just have one offspring, one egg every year or perhaps every second year.

And that leads, I suppose, on to longevity in birds and birds that have that and, you know, the longest-lived wild bird that we know of is a species called a Laceon albatross, and it's an individual called Wisdom.

We know Wisdom is about at least 75 years old now, and she is still reproducing, still laying eggs, still raising a chick.

And that's really remarkable.

Now, we know that she's definitely at least that age because of a ring that was put on her leg, and there may well be other seabirds out there that haven't been ringed that are actually older than that.
