Wireless communication

In the remaining time, we're talking about US carriers.

SpaceX is moving closer to becoming a major US wireless carrier to compete with AT&T, Verizon, and Wireless.

The company has been acquiring licenses for low-band spectrum in the 800 megahertz range, which can help cellular signals penetrate walls and other obstacles.

Most smartphones already ha- uh, handle this band.

But when AI agents start making real-time decisions inside networks that connect everything from vehicles to drones to factories to energy infrastructure, how do we make sure those decisions are accurate, safe, and reliable? My guest this week is Dr.

Hooman Zarrinkoup, Principal Product Manager of Wireless Communications at MathWorks.

Hooman and I explore why RF digital twins are moving beyond offline simulations and into live control loops, how engineering tools can keep errors and outdated data from cascading across connected systems, and how specialized AI skills can help keep autonomous agents within defined boundaries.

So without further ado, please welcome Hooman to Fish Fry.

Ships had encountered ice for decades and adjusted accordingly.

Wireless technology now allowed warnings to be shared.

Experience suggested that risks could be managed.

The phrase unsinkable was sometimes used in promotional language, but it was not a technical claim.

This logic depended on another assumption, that in a serious emergency, help would arrive.

The North Atlantic was busy, ships were rarely alone.

Wireless communication, still relatively new, strengthened this belief.

Distress signals could now be sent and received quickly.

[gentle music] Hand in hand with the controversy over the proliferation of data centers is a debate over the fast-tracking of something else that has to do with technology and AI, cell towers.

The FCC's Build America: Eliminating Barriers to Wireless Deployments is a key part of Chairman Brendan Carr's broader Build America agenda.

It aims to speed up construction of cell towers and other wireless facilities by cutting state and local red tape.

That stands to provide faster, better service sooner for Americans, a plus by many accounts.

And in today's podcast, an expert on the safety issues.

We'll hear from Theodora Scarato.

She heads up the Wireless and EMF program at Environmental Health Sciences, a nonprofit focused on preventable health issues.

[gentle music] And can you just give me [clears throat] a line or two on what Environmental Health Sciences is?
