I've spent 20 years in senior leadership roles at some of the biggest companies in the world.

Indian IT giant Wipro says artificial intelligence has freed up work capacity equivalent to 20,000 employees over the past year, according to comments from Chief Technology Officer Sandhya Arun, reported Thursday.

Crucially, Wipro said those employees were redeployed to other work rather than laid off.

positioning the company's AI rollout as an efficiency gain rather than a job-cutting measure.

The disclosure comes as companies across the technology sector face growing scrutiny over how artificial intelligence is reshaping white-collar employment, with some firms citing AI directly as a reason for layoffs.

Wipro's framing that AI frees capacity without cutting jobs offers a notably different narrative from many of its industry peers.

Is there a statement saying that the existing technology players, and I'm not talking just TCS, I'm talking about Accenture, McKinsey, Wipro, et cetera, are not able to kind of satisfy the customer need or is it the market opportunities so huge etc.

I mean Anthropic in its IPO said they were 30 trillion dollar TAM which is just incredible.

So what is your view on this and then What is your view on this forward deployment engineer? Because everywhere I go, people keep asking me, what is an FTE? And every chief officer I speak to has a different definition.

And look, this extends to the global SIs, the GSIs.

You've got Wipro and Tata.

Of course, they have been charging generally by the hour.

Everybody uses the recorder.

The global SIs are their biggest sales channel.

That's Wipro, Tata, et cetera.

It's a great business.

They're just quietly laying people off.

Wipro installs an employee surveillance tool, just like TCS did recently.

The company is calling it a real-time productivity software.

But come on, it's employee surveillance.
