John SzaboGUEST
8:20
In the meantime, I started the MS program and the NW program, ended up passing the MS in 2004, and then got into wine writing, wrote some articles, mostly for free at the beginning, as one had to do in the day, and one probably still does today, just to get your foot in the door, and then ended up getting hired by a magazine, which was then bought out by Wine & Line, and here I am 25 years later.
John SzaboGUEST
8:46
That's
Laurie ForsterHOST
1:35
Earlier this year, I had one of your partners, Karen McNeil, here to talk about Share and Pair Sundays, but I'm super excited to have you to talk about Come Over October.
Laurie ForsterHOST
1:45
But I thought you have such a fascinating background of experience in the wine industry, the diploma with the Wine and Spirits Education Trust.
Laurie ForsterHOST
1:55
How did you get involved with wine to begin with?
Kimberly CharlesGUEST
1:58
Well, it's interesting.
Janet HelouGUEST
12:52
And, It just, the whole category was lacking in good non-alcoholic options.
Janet HelouGUEST
12:59
And so that's when I sort of serendipitously met Jane and we had this shared bond of like, you know, why hasn't somebody cracked the code? And so with the food science background that I have, as well as I've taken obviously these WSET, like sommelier courses in wine education, And so it just was a perfect fit.
Janet HelouGUEST
13:16
And so now, basically, as Jane said, eight months or so later, I hopped on the team.
Janet HelouGUEST
13:23
I formulated Glimmer to something that we're really proud of, something that it's finally a wine that's balanced.
Caroline FazeliGUEST
2:53
And then I stayed in London after my studies, and I did my Cordon Bleu diploma because I was very interested in cooking at that point.
Caroline FazeliGUEST
3:01
And then after that, I worked in the wine industry in London and did my Wine and Spirits Education Trust diploma.
Caroline FazeliGUEST
3:07
That was the end of my studies.
Caroline FazeliGUEST
3:10
Although I did later join the Master of Wine program.
Gillian LockitchHOST

I enjoyed wine so much that I actually decided to study it.
Gillian LockitchHOST
1:38
I completed levels one and two of the Wine and Spirit Education Trust Courses, WCET, and wrote a travel blog about the experience for my travel and lifestyle website, reviewfromthehouse.com. That was a long 15 years ago.
Gillian LockitchHOST
1:57
Today, my life has changed.
Gillian LockitchHOST
1:59
I don't drink alcohol unless on a very special occasion or out for a celebratory dinner when my taste and smell brain centers overcome my rational decision-making not to touch alcohol.
Gillian LockitchHOST
2:34
Our body whispers that something has changed.
Gillian LockitchHOST
2:37
Or even worse, our body screams that something has changed.
Gillian LockitchHOST
2:42
And the question is, are we listening? Fifteen years ago, I signed up for the Wine and Spirit Education Trust, or WSET, Level 2 intensive course.

Elizabeth SchneiderHOST
4:08
I've never done the WSET, the Wine and Spirits Education Trust.
Elizabeth SchneiderHOST
4:12
What do these programs offer to someone who's taking them? Let's talk about what you don't offer.
Elizabeth SchneiderHOST
4:18
You do not offer these.
Keith WallaceGUEST
8:50
Now everyone has their own names for them.
Keith WallaceGUEST
8:52
We just call them one, two, three, four, five, just to make it make sense.
Keith WallaceGUEST
8:55
But WSET, they actually teach one through four, and then It is actually the Master of Wine program, the British program, that takes over level five primarily.
Keith WallaceGUEST
9:06
That's how I would show it.
Mitch SayersGUEST
20:21
So there's two tracks.
Mitch SayersGUEST
20:22
There's like the master core of sommeliers and there's WSET.
Mitch SayersGUEST
20:26
I think if you're not in the industry, you're probably going to do WSET more because it's less focused on service.
Mitch SayersGUEST
20:33
That's what I did.
Mitch SayersGUEST
20:35
It's structured pretty in a similar way.
