Windows 11, version 24H2

So most of it is not super important.

Um, the only interesting note here is that this update represents the last set of feature updates that 24H2 is gonna get because that version of Windows goes out of support on October 12 or 13, I can't remember.

If you're on 24H2 for some reason still, you will get this update as Patch Tuesday on whatever the second Tuesday of October is.

I could just look that up, I guess.

Um, so you'll get that, and that will be it, right? Um, ideally, what you will get from there is a 26H2 upgrade if you're somehow still on 24H2, and that's actually semi-interesting because ever since Microsoft put 26H2 inside of the, um, [lip smacks] uh, release preview...

I still have trouble remembering where things went.

We haven't heard anything about it.

They haven't said anything, right? And so it sort of makes sense that 26H2 would be released broadly, you know, through Windows Update to people in stable on or before that date because you have to give those people some way forward, meaning the people in 24H2.

So on the 13th, which is the second Tuesday of October, If you are on 24H2, you will get this, whatever this set of updates is, not super important.

Um, and so what they did today, instead of releasing it to Windows Update to everybody as a preview update, they released it to the release preview channel of the Windows Insider Program.

Um, so again, this is not the way things usually go, but this also corresponds to the schedule as I sort of expected it to go anyway, which was that in September we'll most likely get that preview update of 26H2, which you'll get if you have Windows 11 version 24H2 or 25H2.

Um, and then in October we'll probably get the general stable release or whatever.

So just kind of an interesting, um, coincidence there.

Um, and this is where you can s- you can see I, I signed up for the release preview this morning specifically so I could get this build on this computer.

It is, uh, 25/26H2.

By the time 26H2 comes out 24H2 will go out of support, so that's why you don't see that here.

But if you're running 24H2 as I record this or into October or whatever, um, you will be offered the 26H2 upgrade, so that's fine.

But remember, in the world that we've been in since, I'm going to say 23H2, you know, version numbers don't matter anymore, right? So every supported version of Windows has the same basic features and literally the same features really, right? This is a enablement package update.

So 20, no, it was 24H2 was a big kind of underlying platform change.

I think it was 23H2 was that, but whatever the, I might be screwing this up, but 24H2, 25H2, 26H2 are all the same code base.

Super simple update.
