Don't forget, on Sunday at 11 o'clock, the VFLW team is playing in a grand final, going for three in a row.
D
23:15Dean BasichHOST
So, yeah, against Williamstown, a tough game against Willie.

D
24:17Dean BasichHOST
Going for three in a row, so, yeah, truly special.
D
24:20Dean BasichHOST
And hopefully, and it's going to be a big challenge against Williamstown, who finished on top of the ladder.
D
24:24Dean BasichHOST
They actually touched us up last time we played them.
AFL, AFLW, VFL, VFLW, NFL all the FL’s!

But it's actually
F

Williamstown's first ever VFLW grand final appearance and North Melbourne Werribee, which I find a strange name for a team, North Melbourne Werribee.
F
26:37Fiona NewtonHOST
I
B

guess it's kind of geographically.
B
26:51Bec DahlHOST
The old three-peat.
F
26:53Fiona NewtonHOST
The three-peat.
F
26:55Fiona NewtonHOST
So good news for Williamstown, though.
F
26:58Fiona NewtonHOST
They are hopefully going to get their first premiership, which would be great to see.
Prelim reviews, Grand Final previews, memorable VFL/W awards night
J
11:52Joe PignataroHOST
But in terms of the result on the weekend, I think it's probably...
J
11:56Joe PignataroHOST
the right one in the end, the way the season has played out, that we've got the grand final that we do because even though they had to work for it, Williamstown got through after this game on Saturday afternoon, beating Port Melbourne by a couple of points.
G
12:08Gemma BastianiHOST
Yeah, I heard a little rumour that maybe this result was impacted marginally by some sickness in the club.
G
12:17Gemma BastianiHOST
So they copped it a bit, came into this one.
14 MINS LATER
G
25:51Gemma BastianiHOST
It's so wonderful to see her finally get up when they're on that stage and get to hold that one.
G
25:56Gemma BastianiHOST
She's finished pretty high in the count for a few years running.
G
25:59Gemma BastianiHOST
She's been a champion of Williamstown for such a long time.
G
26:03Gemma BastianiHOST
She put in a mountain of work in the pre-season with men's player jake greiser which you'll hear her speak to in the interview that's coming up but um i'm just so pleased for her uh she's a good person she's worked really hard i know that we joke that um she got thrown under the bus and she was meant to come on the podcast but then um bailed on us all in good fun because she is genuinely just like so passionate about williamstown so passionate about the vflw um so it's nice to see her win this one
VFL Rewind - Liston Medal Afterparty
P
6:53Peter LauscheHOST
Emily Eaves, I'm rapt for her.
P
6:55Peter LauscheHOST
I think she's won the last three Williamstown BNFs, and I wouldn't be surprised on October 2 when we attend the BNF at Williamstown if she makes it.
P
7:06Peter LauscheHOST
four in a row hopefully um she might even be a premiership player by then as well um and her background coming from Sydney New South Wales I actually had the um pleasure of actually meeting her dad in 2023 when I went up there for a AFL Sydney game between um St George and um Eastern Suburbs University New South Wales her dad's involved with that football club um the Eastern Suburbs University of New South Wales and you know she's obviously very happy at Williamstown so you know I'm going into her fifth year or sixth year next year so hopefully you know maybe she might even get a look in at the AFLW draft next year.
B
7:53Brad MullenHOST
We can only hope.
B
7:53Brad MullenHOST
It was a really good story, as you mentioned, of the VFLW, that she won the award.
5 MINS LATER
B
13:00Brad MullenHOST
It's going to be a massive game.
B
13:02Brad MullenHOST
We've got probably the four best teams in both competitions playing.
B
13:07Brad MullenHOST
Werribee North Melbourne versus Williamstown.
VFL Rewind 7th September - Jackson Hately - Matt Gahan - Russ Hodges
B
2:47Brad MullenHOST
The other half of the ground we're going to block off.
P
2:49Peter LauscheHOST
Yeah, it's an interesting one, isn't it? It's one of those ones where I would have thought, you know, Box Hill's got a very, very good record at Williamstown, and Williamstown have got a good record at Box Hill.
P
3:03Peter LauscheHOST
And when Williamstown had that situation back in 2011, I think it was, when they were getting refurbed, they played their... final out at Box Hill because it was a ground that they said was very similar to Williamstown apart from obviously the Bree side of things with the water next door and all that sort of stuff but I would have thought that playing You've got a venue like Williamstown or even Casey Fields.
P
3:36Peter LauscheHOST
Yeah.
P
3:36Peter LauscheHOST
It would have been a better option considering you wouldn't have been limited with parking and crowd.
11 MINS LATER
P
14:16Peter LauscheHOST
You've got, you know, Coburg had a fairly good year, so Jack Bytel you couldn't rule out.
P
14:23Peter LauscheHOST
He'll be up there.
P
14:24Peter LauscheHOST
And Greiser's had a good year at Williamstown as well, so that would be massive if Jake Greiser won a list at, what, age 30, 31?
Straight sets exits, come-from-behind victories, 1-point thrillers
J
10:22Joe PignataroHOST
So, Gem, while all that was going on, I was over at Icon Park for the first of the elimination finals in the VFLW.
J
10:28Joe PignataroHOST
We know that North Melbourne, Werribee and Williamstown were watching on.
J
10:31Joe PignataroHOST
They were afforded a week off, given they finished in the top two spots.
J
10:34Joe PignataroHOST
Port Melbourne trailed by 10 points at quarter time, 9 points at halftime.
J
15:11Joe PignataroHOST
really well.
J
15:11Joe PignataroHOST
So we're going to unpack their game coming up a little bit later on.
J
15:14Joe PignataroHOST
But in a quick sentence, can you see them doing similar to Williamstown or will they have to adapt again? They'll have to adapt again.
J
15:21Joe PignataroHOST
Okay.

B
1:52Brad MullenHOST
Definitely not.
B
1:52Brad MullenHOST
Then we had Essendon v. Williamstown.
B
1:55Brad MullenHOST
Essendon got the win 96-51.
P
1:57Peter LauscheHOST
Surprised by the margin.
B
1:58Brad MullenHOST
Yeah, I was, I was, I didn't expect it to be a blowout the way it was.
B
2:04Brad MullenHOST
Obviously the week before Williamstown were looking very, very good until, uh, you know, the last quarter Colton had a bit of a flyback, but yeah, Williamstown really faded off late there.
B
2:13Brad MullenHOST
Unfortunately, um, Yeah, and lost 96-51.
B
2:17Brad MullenHOST
The next one we had was Port Melbourne v. Sydney.

have won.
G
1:03Gemma BastianiHOST
Can you believe that this tear is still going? Well, with the injuries that Williamstown picked up, I'm not overly surprised.
G
1:08Gemma BastianiHOST
Talk to me about this, please.
G
1:10Gemma BastianiHOST
It was pretty devastating.
G
3:26Gemma BastianiHOST
I did say you've been pretty unlucky and he said luck's about to change.
G
3:31Gemma BastianiHOST
Unfortunately, that wasn't the case.
G
3:32Gemma BastianiHOST
But congratulations to Justin Platt for six strong years at the helm of Williamstown.
G
3:38Gemma BastianiHOST
But Cam Joyce rolls on.
