You think about when Odinga really became an incredibly powerful opposition leader.

It was when he built the Pentagon of regional leaders and had people like Ruto and others by his side.

You know, in that 2007 election, more recently, how does Ruto try and deal with the mass youth protests? He forms a broad-based government where he brings in Odinga's former power, Odinga and ODM, and then of course Odinga dies.

This process of trying to form these broad coalitions of elites as essentially a way of demobilizing mass protest, right? How do we stop the young people of rival ethnic groups from emerging and resisting us? We bring in the leaders and we hope the leaders can control their youth.

One of the challenges, I think, for President Ruto in Kenya right now is that leaders may not control the youth in a way they might have been able to 30 years ago.

And that generates a whole different problem.

You can't maintain control in the same way.

The Kasarani Stadium is undergoing renovations ahead of next year's tournament and will then also act as as the venue for the 2029 World Championships.

Cole, who visited Kenya recently to meet the country's President William Ruto, says a lot needs to be done for the nation to be ready to welcome the globe's top athletes.

One other area Kenya can improve on is its record on doping.

Since 2017, over 140 of its athletes, predominantly distance runners, have been suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit, the independent body which co-helped set up when he was first elected World Athletics President in the same year.

And so 2017, the police search his premises and don't take any action.

And even President Ruto himself admitted that the government agencies could have and should have prevented these deaths.

So my issue is with the colonized Paul McKenzie and wherever in the world he got that name from.

If we're sentencing him, we should also sentence the colonizers whose hands are always at play here, these puppet masters.

Mackenzie is part of that elite.

He's just playing his game in a different way.

He's no different than Ruto.

Ruto just plays on a different level.

Somewhat, we have this phobia to do business with each other.

Even within our own countries, we tend to prefer foreign things and not local things.

Um, there were change of guard.

The current, uh, COMESA chairperson, his mandate expired.

It was William, W-William Ruto of Kenya, and he handed over to Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The next in line is, is, uh, is, uh, the Ethiopian prime minister.

Let me use an example.

We have the current incumbent, William Ruto.

He did a manifesto for him to run as president.

Now he can't come back and tell us, here's my manifesto again.

He has to be able to say, it's like a KPI tracker of what I've done, I've failed here, this and this.

And then someone else who's coming in, like say now, Asifuna, He can be given his opportunity to launch his manifesto.

But you can't be an incumbent against a new and say, hey, I've got manifesto 2.0 and this and that.

There has to be like

Having protested before and

really, really swelled the Ruto government into into power, really, because of living issues to the sort of frustration of politicians.

Not following through, it seems.

I mean, that is going to be a theme, isn't it? We've got lots of big elections, haven't we? Brazil coming up at the weekend, and I'm sure Rahul will be speaking about on the programme next week.
