So can you just...
19:10
Tell us.
19:10
Tell us about it.
19:11
Okay.
19:11
So it's one of those things, obviously, people think about cravings almost like something external that happens to us, like you're walking along and you get hit by a craving, like you might get hit by a bolt of lightning or something.
19:23
But it is a very specific conscious thought process.
19:28
And it's as simple as, and obviously it can be anything, but we'll stick with alcohol, but the thought of an alcoholic drink enters your head and And you start fantasizing about it and almost going through this self-imposed tantrum of wanting it.

You actually put quite a bit of effort into doing this study
6:28
So what about timing? Should you wait to hire a lawyer until former charges are filed or would you suggest something different?
6:36
Immediately, immediately contact an attorney.
6:39
I have one case now where someone was at his girlfriend's house over a weekend.
6:47
He came down to spend time with his girlfriend.
6:51
And a child died and the police wanted to keep talking and keep talking.
6:58
to these people and they wanted to, you know, keep inviting them in and say, what happened? What happened? And they kept going down and they kept talking to the police, but they never got a lawyer.
7:12
If they talked to a lawyer in the beginning, right when that child died, if they would have contacted a lawyer, the lawyer, any lawyer worth his salt would have just said, okay, we're not going to be involved in this.
11:34
So with that being said, do you have a case in all your years of experience that shows how one of these decisions after an arrest affected the outcome of the case?
7:00
Wi- with that being said, let's say somebody does, you know, you know, understand that advice and follows that advice and they- they s- decide they want a lawyer, you know, what should they say to the police?
7:09
It's i- in the Miranda rights.
7:11
Um, when they read, when they...
7:12
Before they can speak to you...
7:15
Now, I mean, on TV, uh, it's, uh, i- it's wrong on TV because on TV as soon as you're arrested they read you a Miranda warning, "You have a right to remain silent.
7:24
Anything you say can and will be used against you." That's not what that is for.
7:29
It's for what we call custodial interrogation.

When we are relaxed and socializing, our brain releases endorphins, obviously that chemical that makes you feel really good.
1:09
So it can be quite difficult trying to separate out what is the effect of a drink, for example, compared to what you're experiencing naturally.
1:18
Because if you sit in a situation, a social situation, you are relaxed and you're enjoying yourself, you will get that endorphin boost.
1:27
So if you're having a drink at the same time, it's easy to maybe give the blame for that if you like to the drink.
1:36
And I think that that's another thing I would maybe question is you mentioned there about that, you know, that endorphin hit with alcohol.
1:45
The endorphin hit we get from alcohol is not from the alcohol.

6 MINS LATER

8:03
I don't think I would say they've helped me
37:25
Yeah.
37:25
So the drink- the Sunday drinking starts picking up.
37:28
[clears throat] And then the problem is when that starts picking up, you wake up on Monday feeling awful, and then it's not a long journey before you start ringing in sick.
37:38
Now, the problem is you're ringing in sick, you've got three, f- two, three days hangover, feeling absolutely awful, sat at home with nothing to do, really hard not to have another drink.
37:49
So it was getting longer and longer and longer, these binges.
37:53
Um, and it, I mean, basically just more and more out of hand.
37:56
It was getting ridiculous.

13 MINS LATER

Mm-hmm.
